Modern electric panel heaters can look impressive โ sleek, programmable, app-controlled.
But on an EPC, they donโt always score as well as people expect.
The reason?
EPC ratings are based on running costs and fuel factors, not just how new the heater is. Electricity has a higher cost per kWh compared to mains gas in SAP calculations, which can limit the overall score โ even with modern direct-acting panel heaters.
In simple terms: Direct electric heating = 1 unit of electricity in, 1 unit of heat out.
Thereโs no efficiency gain beyond that in SAP terms.

These are recognised in RdSAP as being more efficient because they store heat more effectively and release it in a controlled way.
That doesnโt mean panel heaters are โbadโ โ but if your goal is improving an EPC rating, system choice matters.
