Is Your School Snack–tember Set?

In 2025, nearly 1 million children and young people took part in the British Nutrition Foundation’s first ever Snack-tember!

The School Playground Company is encouraging all Schools and Early Years settings to get involved in Snack-tember 2026.

What is Snack-tember 2026?
It is a way to improve children and young people’s knowledge, skills, confidence and motivation, so that they can make and choose healthier, more sustainable snacks.

Throughout this month, the British Nutrition Foundation will be helping children and young people to:

• Explore better snacking
• Try new snacks
• Make their own healthy snacks

A fantastic range of resources is available for those teaching, or working with, children and young people aged 5-16 years. These include activity ideas, recipes, posters and lots more!

The aim is to help children and young people choose and make snacks that have:

• MORE vegetables and fruit
• MORE wholegrains, beans and pulses
• LESS saturated fat, salt and sugars

These are key contributors to healthier, more sustainable snacking!

🌟 A fantastic investment in outdoor play at Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Coventry! 🌟

The School Playground Company is delighted to have manufactured, supplied and installed two Mini Trim Trails for the Nursery and Reception children at Holy Family Catholic Primary School, creating an exciting new space where little learners can develop their confidence, balance and coordination through active play.

Alongside the trim trails, we also provided a bespoke 'Welli' Rack and Timber Storage Units, helping to keep the outdoor area organised and ready for adventure in every season.

A huge thank you to Spicer Surveys Ltd for expertly managing the project on behalf of the school. It was a pleasure to be part of delivering this fantastic outdoor investment.
We can't wait to see the children making the most of their new play space. And with the reassurance of our 10-year guarantee, the school can enjoy their safe, high-quality outdoor play equipment for many years to come.

If You Could Change One Thing About Your School Playground, What Would It Be?

The summer holiday may feel just around the corner but now is actually the perfect time to start thinking about your outdoor space for the next school year.

As the school community prepare for a well-earned break, schools have a valuable opportunity to reflect on how their playgrounds, activity areas and outdoor learning spaces are supporting children's development, wellbeing and physical activity.

Ask yourself:
✅ Are pupils engaged and active during break times?
✅ Does your outdoor space cater for children of all ages and abilities?
✅ Could outdoor learning opportunities be improved?
✅ Are there underused areas that could be transformed into exciting play spaces?

Whether you are considering a complete playground transformation, additional play equipment, outdoor classrooms, sensory areas or simply exploring ideas for the future, planning ahead now can help make the most of available budgets and installation windows.

The best school outdoor spaces don't just fill a playground – they inspire imagination, encourage physical activity, support wellbeing and create lasting memories for pupils.

What would make the biggest difference to your school's outdoor environment next year?

The School Playground Company would love to hear your ideas.

Get in touch with our team to discuss how we can help bring your outdoor space vision to life for the next school year with a free, no obligation consultation.

How is your school supporting National School Sports Week 2026?

The School Playground Company is proud to be supporting this year's National School Sports Week 2026. 🙌

From Monday 06 July - Sunday 12 July 2026, the Youth Sport Trust are inviting schools, families and communities across the UK to get moving together, inspired by a landmark year of global sport and the everyday moments of encouragement that happen in playgrounds, classrooms and communities.

While Everlast and National School Sports Week Ambassador Conor Benn bring a focus on fitness, confidence and mindset, the campaign celebrates all sports, all movement and all young people. From playground games to global sporting moments, together we’ll help every child find their rhythm, build healthy habits and enjoy being active.

National School Sports Week’s mission is to ensure that every child moves for at least 60 minutes a day (20 minutes for young people with SEND) through sport, play, and movement.

Together, let’s make National School Sports Week 2026 the most active, inclusive, and inspiring yet! 🏃

Are Our Youngest Children Moving Enough?

The Reality Might Surprise You..

For children aged 3–4, the recommendation is 3 hours of physical activity every day - including at least 60 minutes of energetic, heart-pumping movement.*

But research from the University of Bristol shows:
📊 Only 23% of 2–4-year-olds meet the 3-hour guideline
📊 Just 2.4% achieve the recommended 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity

Even more concerning, data from Sport England highlights a clear inequality:
⚠️ Children in areas of higher social deprivation are less likely to meet daily activity guidelines than those in more affluent communities

Source: https://www.sportengland.org/research/active-lives-survey/children-and-young-people

Why this matters for early years settings....
Outdoor space alone is not enough.
What truly makes the difference is the quality of the environment, the design, the challenge, and the opportunities it creates for children to move, explore, and learn.

A well-designed outdoor space supports:
💪 Physical development (strength, balance, coordination)
🧠 Curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving
🤝 Social skills, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
🌱 Learning through real-world exploration and risk-taking

The message is clear: outdoor play is not an extra - it’s essential.

Every nursery and pre-school has the power to close the movement gap by creating environments where children are naturally active, engaged, and thriving every day.
The School Playground Company helps settings design outdoor spaces that inspire movement, learning, and joy—ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
