Carrying on from our last post, here we have three more chairs that came in for various structual repairs.

Scroll across to see an extensive repair to the dining chair which involved cutting in new timber, carving these new sections to blend and some clever touching in to make the repair as hidden as possible.

This old individual was in a bad way, so we had to carry out some structual repairs to their stretcher. Followed by some finishing work to the repair and the seat to blend.

Don't you love the mellow patina that develops on old Windsor chairs like this?

Here we have an almost complete rebuild of two Oak dining chairs.

All pegged tenon joints were taken apart, cleaned and then clamped back together with new pegs.

In the last picture, you may not be able to see it but a new piece of oak was selected and hand cut into the leg break for support and then finished to blend with the existing polish.

Full Restoration of this Aalto Model 403 chair.

This included structual repairs to the frame, including all joints.

Refinishing the frame in a blonde wax oil finish.

And painting the seat in an period correct Aalto paint code.

Handsome dresser produced by G Plan for their very first range 'Brandon' dating from 1953. Beautiful & quirky detailing in the solid wood handles, flared legs, adjustable mirror and ply curving upper drawings. Great storage capabilities in the deep bottom drawer and lined jewellery drawer.

Condition:

Exceptional condition having just been professionally restored revealing the honey tones of the light oak.

Vintage Mid Century Rattan Desk by Louis Sognot.

A rare piece dating from the 1950s and displaying Sognot's trademark flair in handling rattan. Three drawers with curly rattan pulls and a under counter shelf to the rear. Beautiful diamond shaped rattan trellis sides make this a beautiful desk in the round.

Dimensions:

101.5cm W x 61.5cm D x 74.5cm H (40" x 24.25" x 29.25")

Condition:

The desk is in a lovely condition having just been professionally restored. There is a darker marking to the top right hand corner of the desktop, otherwise in great shape.

About Louis Sognot:

Louis Sognot (1892-1970) was a French designer whose most sought after pieces are those in rattan. He was influenced by the Art Deco and Cubist movements and influenced many future French designers through his work as Professor at l'Ecole Boulle.

Its all in the detail!

When repairing damage to furniture its really important to select the correct wood and to make sure you match the grain direction as well as you can.

Here is a repair Tom completed today in the workshop on an oak coffee table. 🤙
