🍃This Organic September, what does "natural" mean for your home?

September is a month that encourages us to think more carefully about the provenance of what we bring into our lives. Most people apply that thinking to food. Fewer apply it to their homes.

Timber is one of the most natural materials you can choose for fitted joinery. Grown over decades, shaped by hand and machine, finished with oils or paints rather than synthetic laminates. It ages rather than degrades.

If you're making decisions about your home this autumn, it's worth asking where the materials come from - and how long they'll last.

While I love the character of solid timber, I frequently recommend engineered wood for specific furniture and fittings.

Engineered wood is specifically designed for stability; because of its layered construction, it is significantly less prone to warping, shrinking or expanding when faced with the humidity changes we often see here on the Hampshire/Surrey border (and in England in general!). This makes it an ideal choice for bespoke cabinetry, fitted wardrobes, and shelving where precision and longevity are key.

⛵ Did you know that on August 15th, 1620, the Mayflower set sail from our very own Southampton? That’s over 400 years of profound local maritime history (never mind the founding of a new nation that celebrated it’s 250th birthday last month!)
