After a week away in Cyprus, celebrating my longest serving players wedding. It seems a very fitting way to announce the news that the club won’t be participating in the league this season.
After 5 cracking years, what started out as just a bunch of Ryan’s mate, who most hadn’t even kicked a ball in over a decade, and some who hadn’t played 11 a side at all. I somehow managed to craft a side that continuously challenged for leagues, made 3 cup finals and gave some of the best sides in Sunderland a game.
It’s been an honour to manage every single lad who’s put Ryan on their chest and kicked a ball, from the lads who played one game, to the lads who’ve been with me the full 5 year. Every single player I have ever managed, all know how much I love and appreciate you. It’s been a pleasure lads.
Cheers to all the sides we’ve faced over the years, been a battle. Some more than others, who have brought the best out in us.
Every single sponsor who’s ever pulled out their pocket, every single supporter who’s lined up to watch us, especially the girls who have become an integral part of the family feel that we have.
It’s a sad day letting go of something I’ve literally quit jobs to work closer to home, sacrificed family life, ploughed my own money in to, time, effort, blood, sweat and tears in to…to just call it a day. The time is right though & on behalf of Wilson. Cheers lads. Everyone of you. We rode it till the wheels fell off.
Never say never, but for now, it’s ’Catch ya 5 champ’…as the big man used to say.
We may not have reached the heights of other sides, but on that first photo, 2000 miles away from home, celebrating Arron & Mollie’s wedding, all of us bonding through the club and many meeting through playing for Penshaw…every single second has been worth it. For that alone. Friendships that will last far beyond football.
