Produce initial drawings based upon consultations so far, amend and develop the scheme until suitable. Prepare and submit for planning approval, carrying out all negotiations with local authority up to receipt of planning decision. Prepare detailed working drawings, submit and receive Building Regulations Approval. Prepare Schedules of Work and Specification, obtain Tenders for the building work and prepare contract documents. Administer the project through to completion, making site visits and certifying payment. Provide Principle Designer service for Health and Safety.

We’ve been talking about being 50 years old all year, but few things really visualise that longevity like our very first accounts ledger from 1976, completed by hand! Here, Tony takes you through some of those very first entries.

It starts with Conroy & Booth, now Conroy Brook Developments Ltd, lists works for Marshalls, who founders John and Elon previously worked for (clearly still on great terms!), and other Huddersfield businesses such as P&P Wilkinson, now Wilkinson Builders Ltd, and Dunford Building Services who some may remember.

The projects we do, and our accounts systems, have definitely developed since 1976 but it’s quite nice to look back, all misty eyed, at a simpler time from back when it all started!

A national brand with multiple outlets across the country needs to present a consistent and familiar offering in each one. We’re delighted to be working with H&T Group Ltd to help them refit and roll out their stores across the UK.

Working up and down the country, often up against tight deadlines, it’s a great exercise in brand extension, while also making the stores work for each location and team.

This is a large scale programme with many more stores coming on board over the next few months.

We’ve said many times that the key to 50 successful years in business is our people. We’re lucky that many former team members have stayed in touch over the years and been happy to share their memories of being part of the Farrar Bamforth story.

These kind words were shared by Michael Chow who worked with us as an architecture intern student back in 1985/6. You can’t get much better validation than hearing Farrar Bamforth laid the foundations of the architect Michael became today.

We’re very proud that great people like Michael helped shape the business and that they still have fond memories all these years later.

We’re very pleased to have recently become a ‘Friend of Fresh Futures’. Fresh Futures is a Kirklees-based charity with 50+ years of experience supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people, and families.

We’ve actually seen the difference that they make first-hand, having worked with them for a long time on projects such as their alternative provision facility, Brian Jackson College. We’re delighted to not only offer our support for what they do but showcase how they work and their commitment to providing young people with life-changing opportunities.

You don’t make it to 50 years in business without developing some valuable partnerships with clients that endure for many years, and sometimes extend beyond the projects you work on together.

One such relationship we have is with Medequip Community Equipment Service. We’ve worked on many projects, creating new depots as they expand across the UK. We’ve designed staff spaces, to enhance employee experience, and we’ve found common purpose in supporting the great work of Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation

It’s a relationship we hope will continue for many more years!

We wanted to follow up on this post from last week as the response has been really positive. Friday's match against Leeds Rhinos was always going to be a big one with the two teams at the top of the league (Wakefield Trinity has come a long way!) and the local rivalry.

The stadium was sold out and as noisy as it gets! Additional Sensory Packs were requested in the run up to the game and it was very rewarding to see them being used. Tony was there, of course, and was even approached directly by a parent asking for a set of ear defenders for her son. Tony said:

"It was great to see first hand the difference that ear defenders are making to fans who have sensory issues and how the Sensory Packs are making it possible for more people to attend Wakefield Trinity games."

Ultimately, Rhinos took the win by 2 points, right at the end of the game but what a night! Well done to Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation for making those extra packs available and for all the players and fans that made it such a memorable experience!

Wakefield Trinity has recently launched Sensory Packs as a resource for neurodivergent supporters to help minimise overstimulation and create a positive experience on match days. We are very proud to have been involved in the creation of these packs and to supply items for them.

They were launched on 24th July and we know from feedback that they are really helping to make rugby a much more inclusive experience. In fact, they’ve proved so popular, we’re helping to create even more of them which should be available for tonight’s match against Leeds Rhinos!

With a large-scale project with different partners involved, there are multiple perspectives on it, with each provider viewing it through their own lens. We’ve talked about our experience of working on the interior design of Dotty Bridal - the UK’s largest bridal boutique - many times, but it’s fascinating to see it from the perspective of other partners.

Polyflor Ltd is the international manufacturer who supplied the beautiful flooring that we specified to be robust and durable as well as appropriate to such a high-end setting and sympathetic to the character of the listed building. Polyflor recently interviewed Sophie Clarkson, our senior interior designer who led on the project, for their own website. It provides extra insight on the flooring choices and the power of collaboration that creates great outcomes on complex projects like these.

On Yorkshire Day, we are very pleased to reveal the total funds that our friend and colleague, Louise Davison, raised for two Yorkshire charities with a 50 mile hike around West Yorkshire, from Huddersfield to Wakefield and back again! Louise, from Huddersfield, has raised £3,547 for Leeds Hospitals Charity and Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation.

Last week, she got to see some of the great work that she’s helping to support with a tour around the Rob Burrow Centre for MND at Seacroft Hospital, courtesy of Leeds Hospitals Charity.

“It was incredibly moving to see what they’ve created there and how it will help people with MND in the future. Having sadly lost a close family member to this disease, this means a lot to me.”

While there, Louise presented a cheque for £2,525 that she raised for Leeds Hospitals Charity through the challenge. She also raised £1,021 for Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation and will be presenting their cheque and speaking at a supporters' lunch at Wakefield Trinity later in the year.

We’re really grateful that Louise created this challenge as part of our 50th year celebrations and so proud of what she’s achieved.
