From short-term fix to long-term comfort 🌱

After an oil leak, this homeowner was relying on an electric boiler as a temporary solution, but rising energy costs made it clear an upgrade was needed.

We installed a Stiebel Eltron HPA-O 10.2 Trend ASHP with a 250L heat pump cylinder, carried out a powerflush, and upgraded radiators where needed to maximise efficiency 🔧

The result?

💬 “We continue to be very pleased with the new system - our electricity bills are drastically reduced and we enjoy the all round warmth. Chris and Dan did a great job, always very helpful and considerate."

🔧 Like many real homes, this project came with a few challenges:

A damp wall that couldn’t support a new radiator
Earthing upgrades required to meet standards
Despite this, our team ensured everything was completed to a high standard.

Lower bills. Better comfort. Future-ready heating.

If you’re relying on an outdated or temporary heating system, it might be time to consider a smarter upgrade.

Local Housing Authority Projects Update 🏠☀️

We are currently delivering a wide range of housing authority installations across the local area, with 186 projects completed over the past 12 months 📊, on top of our ongoing private work.

Each system typically uses 6 solar panels, installed across a variety of roof finishes and property types. We adapt the design to suit different site conditions, and we include bird protection measures on every install to prevent nesting and reduce the risk of future maintenance issues 🐦

We work closely with other contractors on site to make sure our installations align with wider property upgrade works, keeping everything coordinated and running efficiently.

These systems are already helping residents reduce their energy bills and improve long-term energy efficiency 💚

A reminder that the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is still available to help homeowners switch to low-carbon heating ⚡🌱

If you have been thinking about replacing your gas, oil, or LPG boiler with a more sustainable alternative, this could make a real difference to upfront costs.

What is currently on offer:
✅ £7,500 towards an air or ground source heat pump
✅ £5,000 towards a biomass boiler (in eligible rural properties)

The grant is deducted directly from your installation quote, so there is no need to apply separately. As a certified MCS installer, we handle the process on your behalf 💡

Get in touch if you would like to explore your options or find out whether your property qualifies.

⚡ Meet Harry: Our Electrical Apprentice 🏍️

We'd like to introduce Harry, who's been a key member of the Forest Eco Systems team for three and a half years.

This year, Harry is hitting a significant milestone. He's completing his apprenticeship and working towards his AM2s qualification, which will recognise him as a fully qualified electrical professional. It's the next step in his journey with us.

Over the past few years, Harry has developed practical skills across a wide range of project types. Local authority installations, private residential work, commercial systems: he's been part of the team on all of them. Each project has been a learning opportunity, working alongside experienced engineers and refining his technical knowledge and practical skills.

What's impressed us most is his commitment to quality and willingness to take on challenges. He's tackled everything from straightforward domestic solar installations to more complex system designs and commissioning.

Outside of work, Harry is a keen motocross rider. He often goes riding with Chris, one of our Mechanical Engineers. Seems like there's a team spirit beyond the office!

We're genuinely proud of the standard Harry has reached and excited to see him achieve his full qualification this year. It reflects the quality of mentorship and professional standards that the Forest Eco Systems team brings to every project and every apprentice.

Congratulations, Harry, on your progress. We're looking forward to seeing you fully qualified this year. Great things ahead.

🌡️ Underfloor Heating + Heat Pumps: The Perfect Pairing 💡

Heat pumps are efficient heating solutions. But their true potential emerges when paired with underfloor heating (UFH).

Here's why they work so well together:

Heat pumps are designed to work at lower water temperatures. Traditional radiators need water at 55-65°C. Underfloor heating systems, on the other hand, operate efficiently at 35-45°C. That's exactly where heat pumps perform best, using the least electricity to deliver warmth throughout your home.

The advantages are significant:
✅ Even, consistent warmth from floor to ceiling (no cold spots)
✅ Substantially lower running costs due to optimised heat pump efficiency
✅ Better temperature control and comfort year-round
✅ Future-proof alignment with net zero and emerging building standards
✅ A heating system designed for the future of energy

Installation Options:
Retrofit installations use overlay systems placed on top of existing flooring. Ideal for renovation projects where embedded systems aren't practical.

New builds benefit from in-screed systems embedded during construction, delivering seamless performance from the moment residents move in.

At Forest Eco Systems, we design and install underfloor heating systems specifically tailored to work alongside heat pumps. We model each system to your property's heating needs and building performance characteristics.

If you're considering a heat pump, or already have one and want to maximise its efficiency, underfloor heating is absolutely worth exploring.

🏗️ Building Regs Update: The Future Homes Standard is Coming

Since 2022, all new homes in the UK must be designed to produce around 31% less carbon than before. It's a significant shift. And it's about to accelerate further.

The Current Standard (Part L 2021):
✅Improved insulation and building fabric
✅Whole-house energy modelling (not just individual components)
✅Ventilation and overheating controls are essential
✅Better energy performance across the board
✅Gas boilers still allowed, but the writing is on the wall

The Future Homes Standard (By 2025):
✅75-80% reduction in carbon emissions
✅No fossil fuel heating allowed
✅Heat pumps become the standard for heating
✅Solar PV and battery storage integrated from day one
✅Ultra-efficient building fabric and mechanical ventilation
✅Zero carbon-ready homes from the start

This is not a distant possibility. It's the direction policy is moving, and the market is already responding.

At Forest Eco Systems, we're designing new builds to meet Future Homes Standard requirements today. That means low-temperature heating systems (heat pumps and underfloor heating), optimised solar and battery storage, MVHR, and building specifications that will remain competitive and efficient for decades.

If you're a developer or builder planning projects in 2026, the time to act is now. Building to Future Homes Standard from the start is faster, cost-effective, and gives you a competitive advantage.

Let's discuss how to future-proof your development.
