This weekend, our Operations Director Donald Ward completed the London Marathon and we couldn't be more proud of him 🙌.

With new trainers, very painful feet and a less than optimal pre-training schedule, Donald managed to enjoy the day. Powered by heavy house tunes, he completed the race in an impressive 4 hours 50 mins ⏱️

Raising funds for his much missed Dad, Michael Ward, and everyone affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Donald had an ambitious target of £20,000 for the MND Association. He's thrilled to share that he has smashed this, thanks to the kindness and generosity of family, friends, customers, suppliers and everyone who has donated so far - either through his page or personally 🙏

There's a couple of other events taking place that will top up the total too and if you would like support the cause, there's still time here: https://2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/donald-ward

Every pound donated will:
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Help families receive the support they need
💷 Fund specialist care and mobility equipment
🛟 Drive life-saving MND research forward

💚 Thank you so, so much everyone and well done Donald 🏅

In just over a week, Ward Recycling's Operations Director Donald Ward is running the the London Marathon for his much missed Dad, Michael Ward, and everyone affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and aiming to raise £20,000 for the MND Association.

Here’s a message from Donald:
“This year, I’m proud (and a bit terrified!) to be running the 2026 TCS London Marathon in support of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association - a cause that means everything to me right now.

My amazing Dad lived with motor neurone disease, a brutal condition that slowly takes away movement, speech, and independence - but not dignity, love, or spirit. Watching how he faced this disease with courage and humour, even on the toughest days, has changed how I see everything. I want to turn that experience into action, and this is my way of doing it."

Every pound donated will:
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Help families receive the support they need
💷 Fund specialist care and mobility equipment
🛟 Drive life-saving MND research forward

Every donation, however big or small, makes a real impact.

If you’ve read this far - thank you. If you are able to donate - thank you even more. And if you can’t donate but can share the page, cheer Donald on, or just send good thoughts, that means the world too 🙏.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Michael Ward.

Michael represented the third generation of the Ward family to lead the company and dedicated more than five decades of his life to the Ward business and the industry it serves.

Beginning his career in his early twenties, he worked alongside his brother David to grow and shape the business into the company we know today. Through their leadership, commitment and vision, they helped transform Ward into a modern, multi-site business while maintaining the strong family values that have always been at its heart.

Throughout his time with Ward, Michael played a significant role in shaping the culture, standards and ways of working that continue to guide the company today. His belief in hard work, loyalty and investing in people helped create a business that supports hundreds of employees and the communities in which it operates.

Michael’s contribution to the industry extended far beyond the company itself. After more than 50 years in the sector, he was honoured by the British Metal Recycling Association with a prestigious service award, recognising his long-standing dedication and the impact he had across the industry.

One of Michael’s proudest moments was representing Ward when the company received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade, one of the UK’s most prestigious business honours. Accepting the award at Buckingham Palace was a milestone not only for Michael but for the entire Ward team.

Beyond the business, Michael was deeply respected by colleagues, customers, and friends alike. Family was always central to everything he did, and he took great pride in seeing the next generation become involved in the business and continue the legacy that began many decades ago.

Michael’s influence on Ward, the people who work here, and the industry more broadly will not be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the company he helped build and the generations that will continue to carry it forward.

His son Donald Ward will be running the London Marathon in April in honour of Michael, motivated to raise funds for the MND Association and to help find a cure for this cruel disease that has a devastating impact on families. Anyone wanting to show support is encouraged to visit:
