Some tidy bay repairs completed on this property πŸ‘Œ

Over time, the use of incorrect materials had begun to seriously affect the brickwork. Unfortunately, it reached a stage where brick replacement was the only viable option.

Cement pointing on period properties may look acceptable in the short term, but it can cause long-term damage by preventing the building from breathing. This trapped moisture gradually breaks down the surrounding bricks.

If your property has cement pointing, we always recommend having it carefully removed and replaced with a lime mortar that is appropriate for the age and construction of the building. Using the correct materials helps protect the brickwork and ensures the longevity of your property.

Sunday Morning Visit

This morning we visited Wickenby to inspect an 1873 farmhouse.

The original mortar has stood the test of time and has performed exceptionally well in protecting the brickwork; however, it is now in need of attention. The scope of works is expected to include:

Localised brick repairs and replacements

Repairs to stone sills

Full repointing

Brick cleaning

Replacement of cast iron rainwater pipes

Installation of new guttering

We will now prepare a detailed cost proposal and look forward to sending this over shortly. With approval, we would be delighted to bring some I&S craftsmanship to the restoration of this beautiful historic building.

The scope of work included a full chimney repoint, brickwork repairs, and the careful removal and re-laying of the stone copings to ensure long-term durability and a clean finish.
