💦 New 25mm service installed to a property to remove their old lead service.

💦 Due to the property having tight access. We used the impact mole method to keep disruptions and digging to a minimum

💦 Phase two of the works will begin in a few weeks 🤞 getting rid of the remaining Lead pipe.

💦 We have received a significant increase in landlords and estate agents with rental properties contacting about their legal responsibilities and requirements surrounding the need to carry out lead renewals on their properties .

💦 cheeky old fittings hiding💦

💧Up over the Lochs today and what a day for it. Customer had reported that after a 12 hour stagnation period heavy metals where showing in there water quality tests however after a 30 second flush they test results came back negative for heavy metals.

💧our customer was puzzled about this as all the pipework was replaced with plastic including a new isolation tap.

💧our plan was to excavate and follow the pipework to see if there was any metallic fittings near by.

💧we found an old brass gate valve along with a copper fitting on to the plastic near the isolation tap.

💧 all old fittings were cut out and replaced by new Philmac fittings. After pipework was pressure tested we backfilled and enjoyed the drive back home 🌞 🌞

💧We thought we would do a wee experiment on the upgrades to the pentlands water supply

💧If you remember my client was constantly changing his water filters in the property due to the surface contamination and poorly sealed tank along with other factors

💧Tweed Valley Water Services attended site and designed a new system for our customers to get the full potential of their supply

💧Our client changed his filters two months prior to our arrival to carry out the upgrades.

💧After our upgrades he changed the filters then checked them two months post upgrade. (Roughly)

💧 the difference were unbelievable. I very satisfied customer who now has an excellent supply of spring water with no risk of contamination

💦 High in the Pentland hills over Penicuik the last few days 💦

💦When we were contacted by the Customer to resolve some issues with his private water supply we didn’t think we would get views like this. Ground contamination and dirty water choking up the filters were the main problems to solve along with making this a secure system.

💦Here is how we tackle it 💦

💧 took out all existing tanks and pipework around the source to gain access

💧 excavated down to the source to see what we were dealing with

💧catching the natural spring water coming out of the rock

💧 putting this fresh water into a 1500l sealed water tank.

💦 A very happy customer when left site yesterday seeing the clean fresh spring water filling the tank. A change of internal filters then they are good to go

💦 a repair on a repair💦

💧Contacted by a customer on Monday who had been made aware of a burst water pipe on a private supply feeding a number of homes and a farm.

💧 when we arrived on site we could see the embankment had slipped away slightly. When we excavated down to the pipe we found that the pipe had pulled away from the couplings on a previous repair.

💧 We installed a new 7m length of 90mm HPPE with two maxifit couplings. Then drove anchor pins in to prevent any further issues in the future.

💧 We then carefully pressurised the main back up to working pressure. Then completed the reinstatement.

💧The last Tank of 2025 going in yesterday💧

💦We took a call from a farmer in early December to say he had a split in his current water tank

💦With the current tank feeding his cattle sheds and the cattle occupying these sheds we made arrangements to get this done ASAP.

💦We installed a new 5,000l platin water tank as this was the only option due to the hights and levels of the current pipe work.

💦The farmer informed us that the supply can get very dirty with silt gathering at the bottom of the tanks.

💦A scour pipe was installed so this tank can be emptied and maintained as and when To minimise silt build up.

💦Down to Newstead to end the week💦

💧With the customer finding me on the WaterSafe approved contractors list they informed us that they wanted a fully lead replacement from the boundary stop valve to the internal stopcock

💧They also noted that the flow coming into the property was so poor if the shower was on the taps wouldn’t run or washing machine. etc etc.

💧A new 25mm MDPE pipe was installed and connected to the boundary stop valve and also a new internal stopcock was installed.

💧After the pipe was connected and flushed out the customer was delighted that the flow coming into the property was much better with multiple taps/appliances being able to run at the same time.

📔 There is a fair amount of lead replacements booked in for the remainder of this year and also into next year. If you want worried about lead piping you can find out more on the Scottish Water website. Or feel free to contact myself direct to answer any questions.

The start of a 90mm water main replacement for a local estate last week.

💦The estate noticed a few months back that there storage tanks where empty. And after further investigation it was evaded that the original Cast iron main over 100 years old had a major leak.

💦 After a few site meetings we got the go ahead to design and install a new 90mm MDPE pipe line.

💦 We’ll be back this week to finish installing the pipe and valves. Ready for the connection at the end of the week 🤞🤞
