Hearing scratching in the loft or spotting droppings around your property? 👀

As the colder weather arrives, rats and mice can seek food and shelter inside homes and businesses. Small gaps around doors, pipework and cladding can give them a way in.

Signs to look out for include:

• Scratching or scurrying in walls, ceilings or loft spaces
• Droppings in cupboards, behind appliances or along skirting boards
• Gnawed packaging, woodwork or cables
• Shredded materials used for nesting

At Bruce Environmental Ltd, we help customers across Inverness, the Highlands and Moray tackle rodent problems with a thorough inspection, targeted treatment and practical advice.

We also carry out rodent proofing to seal entry points and help prevent the problem returning. 🔧🛠️

A successful bed bug treatment involves much more than simply spraying the room.

Bed bugs are extremely good at hiding in small cracks, joints and inaccessible areas of beds and furniture. That’s why our treatments involve a thorough approach designed to reach these hidden harbourages.

As you can see from the photo, beds and furniture are dismantled, flipped and thoroughly inspected. Headboards are removed where required, and the membrane underneath divan bases may be carefully opened to gain access to the internal framework.

We use a combination of professional heat/steam treatment, residual insecticide spray and insecticidal dust, targeting the areas where bed bugs are most likely to hide.

When dealing with bed bugs, attention to detail can make all the difference.

🐝 WASP SEASON UPDATE

As we move through August, wasp activity across the Highlands is reaching one of its busiest periods of the year.

At this stage of the season, wasp colonies are well established and can contain thousands of wasps. You may also notice them becoming increasingly active around homes, gardens and businesses as the summer progresses.

We’re currently responding to wasp nest call-outs across the Highlands & Moray, with nests commonly being found in:

• Roof spaces, soffits and wall cavities
• Sheds, garages and outbuildings
• Around gutters and rooflines
• Underground nests and garden areas
• Commercial buildings and external structures

⚠️ If you notice a regular stream of wasps entering and leaving the same location, there is likely an active nest nearby.

Avoid blocking the entrance or attempting to remove an established nest yourself. Disturbing the colony can cause the wasps to become defensive.

Bruce Environmental Ltd provides professional wasp nest treatments for both domestic and commercial properties, with safe and effective treatment carried out using professional equipment.

Pest Hygiene Services

Following a pest infestation, the problem doesn't always end once the pests have gone. Contaminated areas can remain affected by droppings, urine, nesting materials and other biological waste, which may present health risks and leave unpleasant odours if not dealt with correctly.

At Bruce Environmental Ltd, we provide professional pest hygiene and decontamination services for both domestic and commercial properties.

Our services include:

• Safe removal of pest-related contamination
• Cleaning and sanitisation of affected areas
• Application of professional-grade biocides where appropriate
• Removal of nesting materials and debris
• Odour reduction
• Advice on preventing future infestations

Whether you're dealing with rodents, birds, or other pest-related contamination, our aim is to restore affected areas to a clean, hygienic condition while helping to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria and pathogens.

If you require a professional assessment or would like to discuss your requirements, please get in touch.

🐝 A Quick Note About Bees 🐝

We often receive calls asking if we can remove or treat bee nests. While we are happy to help with wasp problems, we do not carry out treatments on bees.

Why? Because bees are incredibly important pollinators and play a vital role in our environment and food production. In most cases, bees are not aggressive unless disturbed and can often be left alone safely.

Wasps, on the other hand, can become a nuisance around homes, gardens, and businesses, particularly during the summer months. If you’re dealing with a wasp nest, we’re here to help.

Not sure whether you’ve found bees or wasps? Feel free to send us a photo and we’ll happily identify them for you and provide advice.

🦋 Common Clothes Moths – Small Pest, Big Damage 🦋

These photos show the signs of a common clothes moth infestation discovered during a recent inspection. The small white “cases” and damage found within carpets and fibres are caused by moth larvae feeding on natural materials such as wool, carpets, rugs, clothing and upholstery.

Many people don’t realise they have a problem until damage has already occurred.

Signs to look out for:
• Bald patches in carpets or rugs
• Small cream/white larvae or casings
• Tiny moths flying slowly around rooms
• Damage inside wardrobes, under furniture or along skirting edges

Clothes moths thrive in dark, undisturbed areas and can quickly spread throughout a property if left untreated.

At Bruce Environmental Ltd we provide professional moth inspections and treatments across Inverness, the Highlands & Moray to help protect your home and belongings.

If you suspect moth activity, early treatment is key before further damage occurs.
