Our 2026 Exec Experiences challenge, Race Around the UK, is almost here, and we’re kicking things off with our Midlands team on 9-11th June, led by Ian Surtees, MBA FIoD, Vertas Group's Chief Executive Officer, and Selena Ayling, Managing Director at Opus People Solutions.

Three teams. One epic challenge. All in support of Cancer Research UK. Armed with just a small budget and no Google Maps, teams will race 52 miles to a mystery destination…but who will take the crown?

We were proud to attend the Nottinghamshire County Show last weekend, joining local families and organisations for a fantastic day celebrating food, farming and community 🌱

Our team loved showcasing our education catering offer through fun, interactive activities designed to highlight healthy eating and the importance of locally sourced produce. Events like this are a great way for us to connect with communities and share how we support schools and local services across Nottinghamshire.

With our partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council now underway, it was a brilliant opportunity to reinforce our commitment to delivering high-quality services that benefit schools, families and communities across the region.

As part of our ongoing commitment to colleague wellbeing, we’re proud to continue strengthening our Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) network. Most recently, 10 colleagues completed their MHFA training, helping to ensure confidential mental health support is even more accessible across the Group. 💚

💬🎬 One of our newly trained MHFAs is Jane Bingley, Production Supervisor for County Enterprise Foods at Vertas. We caught up with Jane to learn more about why she decided to become a MHFA, how conversations around mental health have changed throughout her career, and what it really means to be there as a listening ear when someone needs support.

March marked the start of spring, the end of Q4, and another busy and exciting month across the business!

We were proud to be the main sponsor of the East Midlands Chamber - Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire Business Awards, held at Kelham Hall, celebrating the achievements of businesses across the county. 👏

Throughout the month, the spotlight was on our colleagues as we recognised International Women’s Day, National Careers Week, and Neurodiversity Celebration Week - celebrating inclusion, talent, and diverse career journeys across the Group.

Alongside welcoming our newest colleagues at the March induction and attending jobs fairs, our catering teams were also busy baking delicious treats to mark Eid and Easter. 🧁💫

Last month may have been shorter, but it certainly wasn't quieter!

We kicked off February with the launch of our brand‑new 2026 Exec Experiences initiative - Race Around the UK. This adventure, taking place between June and July, brings together our Executive Directors, colleagues, clients, and suppliers for a fundraising challenge in support of Cancer Research UK. 👏

February also saw another exciting milestone: our first‑ever Vertas Group Apprenticeship Fair. We welcomed some of our leading training providers, giving colleagues the chance to chat with them and explore the wide range of apprenticeships available. 🎓

Additionally, we attended several external apprenticeship and careers events during National Apprenticeship Week, our catering teams embraced the Valentine’s spirit with delicious themed bakes, and we were delighted to welcome our newest colleagues at our second induction session of the year. 👋

This year, we're inviting a select number of client and supplier partners to take part in our brand-new Exec Experiences initiative: Race Around the UK. 🗺️📍

Join one of six teams for a two‑day challenge taking place between June and July, designed to strengthen relationships, encourage teamwork, and support an important charitable cause.

Inspired by Race Around the World, the experience brings together Vertas Group Executive Directors, colleagues, clients and suppliers to work side‑by‑side in a unique setting that takes everyone beyond day‑to‑day working relationships. 🤝

The aim of the challenge is simple: travel 52 miles to your destination in the fastest time possible. The catch? No Google Maps, a £200 budget per team, and at least three different modes of transport required.
