J.Wright Stonemason Fourth generation Monumental stonemasons in Ipswich. New memorial, Additional inscriptions,Removals, Renovations and repairs, Pet memorials and House signs

James Wright is the fourth generation stonemason in his family with his Great Grandfather starting the original J. Wright and Son Stonemasons on the corner of Suffolk Road in Ipswich in the late 1800's. After the shop suffered bomb damage in the War the family moved to Cemetery Road Ipswich where the shop and family name remained until 2018 although no longer owned by the Wright family. The family

business was sadly sold in the late 1980's and James' Father started working for the co-op masonry department where James joined him in 1993. In November 2008 the co-op decided to close the Ipswich masonry department and contract the work out to another company in Norfolk. With Stonemasonry running through his veins and now over 20 years experience James started J. Wright Stonemasons in February 2009 and we have been running a successful family business ever since.

We have once again been in the position of people believing we have closed, we can assure you this is untrue. We closed the limited side of the company a few years ago as we wanted to keep the business as a small family run company that can offer a very personal service.
We don’t often post/promote our work as we understand it is very sensitive and emotional. You can however take a walk around most cemeteries and church yards in Suffolk and find the Wright name on the base of memorials made by the family since the late 1800’s.

May we also take this opportunity to wish customers, friends and family a peaceful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2025.
Best wishes to all
James & Laura

It has come to light recently after a few new customers have called us that they are being led to believe we have been taken over by the co-op, this is in no way true. It is a complete compliment that over the years people and businesses have used James' family name and shop as advertisement and although the shop was sold by the family almost 30 years ago it still holds the family name because of James' family's great reputation in the town and the stonemasonry industry.
We thought now would be a good time to share just a snip of James' family history and where we are today. Please feel free to share this with your friends and family and spread the word that we are very much still running. Also any reviews, likes or recommendations are also greatly received.

Working on the war memorial in Belstead village today adding the name of a fallen soldier. Also have the local press coming along to take pictures for an article in the newspaper.

Very proud day for James today, he has finished the memorial tablet for the late
Ray Butt, director & exec producer of Only Fools & Horses, director of "Last of the summer wine", "Are you being served", "The Liver Birds" to name a few.
James is a big fan of his work and was honoured to be asked to make his memorial.
