Our commitment to making a positive impact goes far beyond the projects we deliver 🤝.

Last week, we were delighted to carry out complimentary repairs to Magpas Air Ambulance’s car park in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Caring for a population of over 10 million across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and the wider East of England, Magpas Air Ambulance is a charitable organisation that relies on donations to deliver its life-saving emergency medical service 🚁🚑.

Our surfacing crew hand laid material to improve access to the car park entrance and even enjoyed some very welcome refreshments ☕, kindly provided by the Magpas team!

We were delighted to receive the following feedback following the works, “For Toppesfield to donate their services in kind is incredibly generous. The team that worked on site were lovely and they did a great job. Thank you!”

This week is Learning at Work Week, and we’re proud to celebrate our investment in our people with an announcement of an internal promotion!

Alex Payne has recently been welcomed into the role of Commercial Manager for our Highways & Frameworks team 👏.

Having first joined Toppesfield in 2017 on a graduate programme, Alex did a rotation working in different departments across the business, to build his understanding of surfacing and our operations, before finding his place in the Commercial team.

When asked about his development during his time in the business, Alex said:

“Toppesfield has always been generous at filling any knowledge gaps during my time here, either through on the job learning or specific external training. My experience across different areas of the business allows me to pass knowledge on to the rest of my team, and help us continue to grow our commercial capabilities.”

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even if you’ve worked somewhere for a long time, there’s always more learn and someone willing to support you. Even after 9 years, I’m still learning new things regularly!”

ToppTalent Award 🌟

Each month, we’re proud to recognise employees who go above and beyond through our ToppTalent Awards.

Dana, Payroll Administrator, was recently nominated by several colleagues for her outstanding support during an unexpected payroll system issue, and when stepping up to cover annual leave in the team 🤝.

Playing a critical role, Dana worked tirelessly and with great attention to detail to ensure both weekly and monthly payroll were completed accurately and on time.

We’re incredibly grateful for Dana’s positivity and confidence and are proud to have her as part of our ToppTeam 💙.

From frameworks to film sets, who knew asphalt surfacing could be quite so exciting?! 🎬🎥

Last week, one of our crews were working on the set of a popular TV series, hand laying surface course to create the look of a classic, rough around the edges, American highway.

By working closely with our clients to understand their projects (no matter how niche!), we’re proud to offer surfacing solutions that really are ready for the red carpet.

And they’re off! Today, a team of our Midlands & North colleagues are taking on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge ⛰️ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support 💚

They have just conquered Snowdon, before moving on to Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan, with the aim of summitting all three peaks before the day is out.

But they’re not alone! The Area 9 team from Colas Ltd are also racing to complete the challenge, as they raise funds for the British Heart Foundation ❤️

The question is, who will finish first? 💪

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, which is always an important reminder that looking after our mental wellbeing is just as vital as taking care of our physical health 🧠💙.

Each year in May, we curate a month full of wellbeing activities for our employees, designed to encourage self-care, boosted physical activity and building connections with those close to you.

Kicking off with our annual walking challenge on 1st May 🚶, employees have formed teams and are competing to be titled ToppSteppers at the end of the month. So far, over 10.5 million steps have been taken! 💪 With prizes to be won, the stakes are high.

Next up, wellbeing boxes were posted home to each of our employees this week. An initiative now in its sixth year, the boxes are designed to help our teams take a break and moment to reflect, with information around learning and wellbeing support 🤝.

And finally, the ‘view from your brew’ ☕ competition returns! With categories including ‘largest brew’ and ‘most picturesque brew’, we’re encouraging our teams to take a break and connect with those around them, as often a small chat and someone knowing they’re not alone can make all the difference.

In our industry, mental health still carries a stigma and isn’t talked about as openly as it should be. By taking small actions every day, we’re hoping we can be part of changing that.

Last week, one of our surfacing crews were working in Whitby, North Yorkshire, carrying out improvements to a junction next door to a fish and chip shop.

Our client was delighted with the end result, and the surfacing crew were even happier with the quality of the fish and chips! 🐟🍟

Today we’re celebrating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 🦺 and reflecting on what matters most – that everyone has the right to go home safe and well 🤝.
