πŸ“ Kendal & The Lakes Painting & Decorating has been a part of Ryan's family for just over 40 years, with Ryan first learning the trade from his Dad 18 years ago over in the U.K. In 2013 Ryan packed up his painting gear and moved over to Queenstown to start a new life for himself, where he now lives with his ECE Teacher wife Rachael and new baby son Felix. O

ver the last eight years Ryan has worked for a local high-end painter Jeremy Ross Painters Ltd. Ryan loved his time working for Jeremy because of his professionalism, high standards, and a very good eye for detail. Ryan say's Jeremy has brought him a great amount of value and a better understanding of how the New Zealanders do things, which can be quite different to the hills of the Lake District in sunny old England. But the time has come for Ryan to create his own successful business here in Queenstown. Carty Painting will operate with strong values aimed at understanding and serving client needs. To Ryan, every new project means a new relationship. Ryan prides himself on his friendly approachability, solid work ethic, and a great understanding and eye for detail when it comes to the Painting & Decorating industry.

These three tips make a huge difference to the final finish.

1. Clean caulk lines
2. Quality primer-undercoat
3. Quality brush & sleeve

What’s your go-to brush and microfibre sleeve combo?

Tag the brand below πŸ‘‡

I’m genuinely curious as I’m still fairly new to the UK decorating products after living in New Zealand πŸ‘

This could be Felix’s last summer riding shotgun, but the first of many coast-to-coast adventures 🚲

When Felix was a baby, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. We were fortunate to receive early intervention and support, and it made a huge difference to his life.

Today, you’d struggle to stop him riding bikes and chasing new adventures.

Before he outgrows his shotgun seat, we’re cycling Hadrian’s Wall together to raise money for Stick β€˜n’ Step, helping other children access the support they need.

If you’d like to support the ride, the link is in my bio β™₯️

Simple crack repair πŸ‘‡

βœ”οΈ Scrape out the crack
βœ”οΈ Sand the area
βœ”οΈ Fill crack
βœ”οΈ Gardz on bare plaster
βœ”οΈ Apply tape
βœ”οΈ First skim coat
βœ”οΈ Light sand
βœ”οΈ Second skim coat

Taking a bit more time on the prep usually means a stronger, longer-lasting repair.

Who’s tried these sleeves? πŸ‘‡

First time using them and I was very impressed πŸ™Œ

Didn’t think one dip would cover the whole wall, but it got there πŸ˜…

And the finish was smooth, exactly how I like it πŸ™

Happy days πŸ‘Œ

Most cracks aren’t repaired.

They’re just hidden.

Proper prep. Proper products. Proper repair.

Quick & Easy Wall Tutorial πŸ‘

βœ”οΈ Sand all walls
βœ”οΈ Light check and fill
βœ”οΈ Sand and spot prime filler
βœ”οΈ Quick sand over the primer
βœ”οΈ Two full coats

First coat, you can cut everything in first.

Second coat, work wall by wall to keep a wet edge.

Use a mini roller for minimal brush marks around your cutting in.

One dip of the roller should comfortably spread 2–3 roller widths.

Once the paint is spread, lay it off from top to bottom for a flat clean finish πŸ‘Œ

S1-E2 | Quick & Easy Ceiling Tutorial πŸ‘

Quick one before we start, before I decided to turn this job into a proper mini-series, I didn’t film enough of the lounge ceiling process πŸ˜…

Moving forward I’ll make sure I capture a lot more of the ceiling work properly. I know ceilings are probably one of those jobs people try to avoid, but once done properly they completely freshen up a room and make it feel finished πŸ‘Œ

This is the same house, just the kitchen diner - process is exactly the same.

First things first:
βœ”οΈ Sheet up properly
βœ”οΈ Plastic over the kitchen
βœ”οΈ Drop the lights if you can

Then:
βœ”οΈ Sand the ceiling
βœ”οΈ Fill where needed
βœ”οΈ Sand and spot prime filler
βœ”οΈ Two full coats

Always roll in two directions:
First coat away from the natural light
Second coat with the natural light for the cleanest finish πŸ‘

Little tip - use your lights as markers so you can keep track of where you’ve rolling.

Save this for later, walls and woodwork coming next 😊
