This is a property we worked on in Coventry after the homeowner became concerned when the brickwork above a recently installed window began to separate and sag
To investigate the cause, we carefully removed several bricks above the opening. As suspected, we discovered that no lintel had been installed to support the masonry. Instead, the weight of the brickwork was resting on little more than a layer of flexible mastic and expanding foam, materials that are simply not designed to carry structural loads
To make the area safe, we first installed a series of strongboy props to fully support the brickwork above. Once secure, we dismantled the affected section, cleaned and retained the original bricks, and installed a new steel lintel to provide the correct structural support
With the lintel in place, the brickwork was carefully rebuilt using the original bricks before being repointed with a colour-matched mortar, leaving the repair structurally sound and visually seamless
Masonry should always be supported by the correct structural elements. If you've noticed cracking, movement or sagging brickwork around windows or doors, feel free to get in touch for a free, no-obligation quotation
