It's always a pleasure when a client sends us photos because they're excited about how their garden is developing. 🌿

These images arrived in our inbox recently from one of our consultancy clients, and we can completely understand why she's so delighted.

Over the course of the project we've explored ideas for planting, raised beds, screening, lighting and creating comfortable spaces to sit and enjoy the garden. It's wonderful to see everything beginning to come together.

The Pyracantha is enthusiastically making itself at home, the planting is settling in beautifully, and the globe lights are creating a lovely atmosphere as evening falls.

One of the joys of consultancy projects is seeing gardens evolve over time, with each stage building on the last.

We're looking forward to helping shape the next phase of this garden's journey! 💚

A big shout out to Sue! 🌿

This week marks 10 years since Sue joined the Blue Daisy team.🥳

Gardening isn't always as glamorous as it looks on social media. It takes patience, resilience, knowledge and a willingness to work through every season the British weather can throw at us.

Over the last decade, Sue has helped care for countless gardens and been a valued part of our team every step of the way.

Anyone who can still turn up with a smile after ten years in horticulture deserves celebrating!

Congratulations, Sue, and thank you for everything you do. 💚

Garden Design Principle: Using Colour to Link a Garden

Colour is one of those design tools that often works quietly in the background.

We tend to notice colourful flowers first, but colour can come from many different places within a garden. Planting, walls, paving, structures and even small decorative features can all contribute to the overall palette.

Repeating colours throughout a space helps create visual connections. It can encourage the eye to move from one area to another and help separate parts of a garden feel like they belong together.

Sometimes those colour links are created through planting, sometimes through materials, and often through a combination of both.

We've included a few examples in this slideshow to show how colour can be used in different ways to help create a more cohesive garden.

It’s a busy time of year in our gardens at the moment 🌿

We spotted our resident little blackbird recently, hard at work collecting food amongst the borders, and about to head off back to the nest with his bounty.

Not a brilliant shot - taken quickly through a window on a zoomed phone camera - but we rather liked the silhouette against the sky and the fleetingness of the moment.

We love this time of year, gardens are full of tiny moments of activity like this, and it makes us absurdly happy when we see them! 😊

One of the nicest things about planting-led gardens is watching them continue to evolve and mature over time 🌿

We originally designed this planting scheme back in 2016 and it’s still looking beautiful nearly a decade later. The structure has softened, the planting has settled naturally into the space and the garden now has a real sense of maturity and seasonal rhythm.

Gardens like this are always a collaborative effort over time - not just thoughtful initial design, but ongoing care from both our gardening team and our clients too, who continue to nurture and enjoy the space season after season 😊

Sometimes it’s the tiniest details in a garden that end up being the most captivating 🌿

From a distance these flowers of the Saxifraga rotundifolia create a lovely, soft, airy haze of colour, but up close they’re incredibly intricate - each tiny bloom looking almost hand-painted.

One of the things we love most about gardens is that they constantly reward closer observation. The longer you spend in them, the more the little details begin to reveal themselves 😊

It’s always a treat to hear about the results our gardeners are achieving in clients’ gardens. And it is honestly heartwarming to know that our clients appreciate our gardeners as much as we do! 💚

GARDEN DESIGN PRINCIPLE: Guiding Movement 🌿

The way we move through a garden has a huge influence on how the space feels and how we experience it. Even subtle decisions around pathways, direction changes and layout can alter the atmosphere completely.

Straight pathways often create a stronger sense of structure and formality, while curves can slow movement slightly and encourage a more gradual experience of the space.

Sometimes movement through a garden is bold and symmetrical - sometimes it’s softer and more relaxed. Neither approach is inherently better than the other. It’s usually about finding the right balance for the garden, the architecture and the people using it.

With Chelsea Flower Show week about to take over our screens again, it’s been making us think about some of the gardens and spaces that have stayed with us over the years 🌿

This was taken at Spetchley Park Gardens during one of our visits last spring. Even when we’re busy working on client projects, we’re often noticing ideas, planting combinations, pathways, seating areas or simply the way a garden makes people feel.

We thought this little spot to pause, sit for a while and feel immersed in the garden around you was just lovely 😊

The bee houses are getting busy again! 🐝There’s plenty of activity around this one, it was positively buzzing!

It’s great to see wildlife features being useful rather than just decorative and it’s fascinating watching the bees being busy.
