It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Cliff Barrett, Master upholsterer and founder of Kenilworth Upholstery Service.
Born in 1937, Cliff started his upholstery career at P.H Woodwards in Leamington Spa as a young teenager in the early 50s. He branched out on his own to begin trading as Kenilworth Upholstery Service in 1966. During his 50+ years of self employment, his workshop had no fewer than 4 locations in Kenilworth; including Park Road, Common Lane and - in the early days - some pig sheds not far from School Lane and more latterly here at Farmer-Ward rd.
He will be remembered not only for the level of craftsmanship that he achieved, but more so for his kind nature and willingness to help those in need.
Many reading this will have a story of his that you remember, or perhaps even a piece of Cliff’s work in your homes. It would be wonderful to have some of them shared here for us to pass onto his family.

How time flies! We had this video produced for us by the very talented bunch at Simply Thrilled about 8yrs ago. We didn’t rush to release it because, well we don’t rush anything!
The master is still alive and well, popping down occasionally to raid the biscuit drawer. But his hands have now well and truly let him down.
Apart from that everything here at Kenilworth upholstery remains the same. Same values, same techniques, same efforts to provide great service in this ever changing world……oh there might be some more hair follicles missing. 🤷🏼‍♂️
