Quayside Leisure Centre goes solar!

We’ve delivered another renewable energy project through our specialist Eco-Tech division, supporting South Hams District Council & West Devon Borough Council’s sustainability ambitions at Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge.

Cllr Victor Abbott and Cllr Nadine Dommett visited the Centre last week. The installation of 310 solar PV panels are expected to generate approximately 186 MWh of clean electricity each year, supplying around 50% of the centre’s annual electricity demand. The system will also help save an estimated 36.1 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, contributing to a greener future for the local community.

With thanks to South Hams District Council for their collaborative approach throughout the project, and to our Eco-Tech team for delivering the installation with minimal disruption, allowing the leisure centre to remain fully operational throughout the works.

We are really pleased to be on site! Installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the Quayside Leisure Centre's main building starts today.

Delivering a practical renewable energy project for South Hams District Council that delivers both environmental and financial benefits, this project is another positive step in a wider programme of carbon reduction and energy efficiency improvements.

☀️ Green Upgrades Coming to Quayside Leisure Centre!

We are excited to announce that major clean-energy works will officially commence on Monday, 13th July!

Working in close partnership with South Hams District Council, the principal contractor EX2 Group will install a state-of-the-art 189.10 kWp pitched-roof solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the main building.

This project is a massive step forward for the Council’s wider decarbonisation strategy, slashing ongoing energy costs to safeguard the centre’s future while drastically reducing carbon emissions. The system also features advanced module-level monitoring and safety technologies (SafeDCT™ and integrated Arc Fault Detection) to ensure maximum safety performance for the premises, staff, and visitors.

⏱️ What You Need to Know:

Timeline: Works start Monday, 13th July, with completion aimed for late August.

Open for Business: Quayside Leisure Centre will remain fully open throughout the duration of the project.

Minimising Disruption: While there will be some scaffolding and a temporary contractor compound in the car park, EX2 Group will be sequencing works to avoid interference with normal leisure operations.

Congratulations to Plymouth City Council on the official opening of the transformed Armada Way and its fantastic new city-centre play area – a brilliant new space for families, residents and visitors to enjoy.

We’re proud that the EX2 Group team played a role in delivering the lighting, solar trees and supporting infrastructure that help bring this vibrant public realm to life. The opening day showcased exactly what these spaces were designed for, with the solar trees providing a focal point around the stage area for live music, community activities and speeches.

A huge well done to everyone involved in delivering this landmark project. It’s great to see the vision become reality and the space already being enjoyed by so many people. 👏

Congratulations to EX2 Team Snowdon! 👏

While most of us were still fast asleep in the early hours of Sunday morning, our incredible team were already making their way up Snowdon—navigating the dark to reach the summit for sunrise.

Although the view at the top turned out to be very foggy, their achievement is anything but!

The team have raised an amazing £2,400 (and counting!) for the South Western Ambulance Charity, smashing their original £2,000 target.

Described as a “Great experience”… though perhaps not one to repeat anytime soon (!), our engineers and managers are already back at work today, supporting projects across the South West. A true testament to their dedication both on and off site.

Huge well done to everyone involved - and thank you to all who supported and donated.

We’re delighted to share that EX2 Group has been shortlisted for Infrastructure Project of the Year at the Constructing Excellence South West Awards!

This recognition is for our five-year programme delivering a major electrical infrastructure upgrade at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital - one of the most complex live healthcare environments in the South West.

We’re absolutely blown away by your generosity shown so far 🙌

Thanks to everyone’s support, we’ve already hit our original fundraising target of £1,500 for our Snowdon Sunrise Challenge. With that momentum behind us, we’ve upped the target to £2,000 to raise even more for an incredible charity South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Training is well underway too. These photos are from our weekend training walk on Dartmoor, 12km with just over 400m of ascent. A tough but rewarding route… and done in daylight this time!

Plenty more preparation to go before we take on Snowdon in the dark.

We have two EX2 Group milestones this month – 10 years with Dan Manning and Kelly Freemantle!

We’re proud to recognise Dan, Senior Electrical Project Manager and Kelly, Accounts Manager who are both celebrating 10 years with EX2 Group.

Dan joined EX2 on site as an Approved Electrician / Site Supervisor. After five years he joined the office team as a Project Supervisor, quickly progressing to Project Manager and now Senior Project Manager.

Over the past decade he has supported delivery of a wide range of projects, including our work with the Buttercup Ward (Nightingale Hospital), The Plym Neuro Rehab Unit, the new build Tiverton Endoscopy Unit, hybrid theatres at Royal Devon, Exmouth Community College and Derriford District Centre.

When Kelly joined, the business had just three office-based staff. After 16 years in the Civil Service, moving into a private sector construction business and taking on finance was a big shift.

Starting with admin, invoices and payroll, Kelly grew with the business as it expanded. Along the way she completed AAT Level 2 and Level 3 bookkeeping, helping build the finance function that now supports our team of nearly 50 people.

Their journeys highlight what we value at EX2 – opportunity, development and supporting our team to grow with the business.

Thank you both for your hard work, commitment and contribution over the last decade. Here’s to the next chapter!
