Director reflecting on our first year - Owen Herbert

My career began as a Plumbing & Heating Engineer, progressing to Offshore Barge Supervisor, before returning home to work within the energy and renewables sector. Each role, spanning around a decade, has equipped me with a breadth of adaptable knowledge and experience, shaping the way I approach every opportunity.

I knew the time would come for a new challenge. While I thoroughly enjoyed my previous role and valued the strong relationship with my employer, it took time to identify what that next step should be.

That clarity came through conversations with Ross. The opportunity, the shared vision, and most importantly the challenges ahead, made it clear this was the direction I had been looking for.

In the early months, the shift to a more desk-based role was an adjustment. My strengths have always been rooted in a hands-on approach. As Operations Director, I have found real fulfilment in being back on-site working closely with sub-contractors, planning and coordinating projects, meeting critical deadlines, and seeing the results of the team’s hard work come to life.

Delivering projects across multiple communities in the West of Scotland including Tiree and Mull has truly been a particular highlight, combining professional achievement with the opportunity to work in some incredible locations.

As we move into year two, we have established a strong and capable team, built trusted relationships with our sub-contractors, and ensured the highest standards of health & safety through targeted training and development. We remain focused on continuous improvement both at an individual and business level to support sustainable growth.

With every project completed, another begins. We continue to build our reputation and strengthen our portfolio, demonstrating who Buileach are and what we are capable of delivering.

Looking forward to the next challenge that lies ahead ...

Director reflecting on our first year - Ross Samson

After more than 20 years in public sector construction with a single organisation, the idea of building something of my own became increasingly compelling. However, I knew this was not a journey to take alone. While I brought extensive experience in public contracts and recognised the opportunities available for smaller, agile businesses, I also understood the need for strong operational leadership.

That’s where Owen came in, bringing the complementary skills, insight and drive needed to help turn a shared vision into a reality.

From day one, we took a structured, step by step approach, ensuring every requirement was met to successfully launch the business, and continuously improving to meet the evolving demands of the construction sector.

Over the past year, I’ve been incredibly proud to support the team in securing a wide range of accreditations and certifications, including NEBOSH, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Constructionline Gold and SMAS, among others. These milestones have positioned us strongly, enabling us to compete confidently and demonstrate our credibility within the industry.

Now, as we move into year two, I’m excited by the opportunities ahead. The foundations we’ve built over the past year allow us to focus firmly on growth, while maintaining our commitment to delivering every project to the highest standard—from inception through to completion.

The journey is only just beginning—here’s to continuing the hard work and seeing what’s next for Buileach.

Project Progress Update - St.Lukes High School

Renovation works on the previously run-down janitor’s house within the school grounds are now fast approaching completion.

These images highlight just how much the building has been stripped back and transformed—now renovated to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming learning space for high school pupils.

A great result for the school and the wider community, and we’re looking forward to seeing it fully in use soon.

Final photos and videos will follow.

Buileach were delighted to attend the Kilmarnock Football Club Player of the Year Awards on Sunday evening ⚽

It was an excellent night, brilliantly hosted by Robert D***s, filled with entertainment, recognition, and celebration of our men's & ladies' local teams. Honouring both past and present contributions, with the Hall of Fame & 2025/26 Player Awards. A fantastic event and a great opportunity to support and celebrate Kilmarnock FC 🏆

The team at Buileach would also like to take this opportunity to thank the corporate team behind the scenes at the club. Particularly to Gregg McEwan and Claire Brawley, then most importantly, the core staff in the Champions Lounge, Demi and Lesley, for everything over the past year 🍻 🍷

We thoroughly enjoyed the three more goals last night, securing our place in the Scottish Premiership once again for next season. We now look forward to supporting the boys on our away day to Livingston this Sunday in our final game of the season 💙 🤍

Mon the Killie!
