Director reflecting on our first year - Owen Herbert
My career began as a Plumbing & Heating Engineer, progressing to Offshore Barge Supervisor, before returning home to work within the energy and renewables sector. Each role, spanning around a decade, has equipped me with a breadth of adaptable knowledge and experience, shaping the way I approach every opportunity.
I knew the time would come for a new challenge. While I thoroughly enjoyed my previous role and valued the strong relationship with my employer, it took time to identify what that next step should be.
That clarity came through conversations with Ross. The opportunity, the shared vision, and most importantly the challenges ahead, made it clear this was the direction I had been looking for.
In the early months, the shift to a more desk-based role was an adjustment. My strengths have always been rooted in a hands-on approach. As Operations Director, I have found real fulfilment in being back on-site working closely with sub-contractors, planning and coordinating projects, meeting critical deadlines, and seeing the results of the team’s hard work come to life.
Delivering projects across multiple communities in the West of Scotland including Tiree and Mull has truly been a particular highlight, combining professional achievement with the opportunity to work in some incredible locations.
As we move into year two, we have established a strong and capable team, built trusted relationships with our sub-contractors, and ensured the highest standards of health & safety through targeted training and development. We remain focused on continuous improvement both at an individual and business level to support sustainable growth.
With every project completed, another begins. We continue to build our reputation and strengthen our portfolio, demonstrating who Buileach are and what we are capable of delivering.
Looking forward to the next challenge that lies ahead ...
