Jaguar XJS 4.0 1995 up from London to us, numerous places have been shooting gas in to this chaps car without resolving the issues, usual culprit on these last or the line cars, leaking Ranco pressure switch, NLA , plus the pipes are prone to rot, so I do this solution, a front to back rubber hose, with pressure switch that can be adapted to the factory wiring with a pair of terminal pliers, routed out of the way of the extreme heat of the exhaust, maybe not to the purists delight but if you want your AC working on your XJS then the choice is looking factory fresh to please one person who looks under the bonnet or driving in a chilled environment...

So super busy time of year, too busy to post tbh, however this car came in, owner has paid a small fortune for it to be restored, part of the restoration was to fit our XJS sanden compressor upgrade kit, which we supplied to the restoration company, the owner then was presented with his car, once the weather warms he realises his AC isn't working, gets it looked at and the verdict was there was a blockage, as it's a new kit, a failed expansion valve, so I'm contacted, can I have another valve, I asked if I could see the car and correct the failed valve... The rest was pretty shocking... Broken capillary off the new expansion valve, disgraceful manner in which it was installed, so simple task to remove and replace, job done, then noticed no cold air only hot and on defrost air to screen only, no change of state irrespective of user settings.. investigation shows, no one bothered to mask up the heater box and air vents when sandblasting took place, rendering the mechanical servo jammed and burnt out the little motor, hence no air direction change or temperature change. Thanks to Andy he found me a working servo, from a newer car, so this being a 77 meant I had to change the wiring ... Once installed, things still not working, to find when the new music Bluetooth system was installed the heater valve vacuum pipe got pushed off its port, meaning a further dash strip to fix the problem.. so lots of work that started off as a simple valve change.... All of which was not required had those that charged an eye watering sum to restore the vehicle actually caused all the problems themselves...

When you know a trickle is about to turn into a torrent... Full time dealership support mode now on the yellow peril's... Apparently this one has been an issue for two years and no one got to the bottom of it, suspicion was by the fitter was it was freezing up as the AC would be ok for a half hour then just stop, if the machine was allowed to idle the temperature would drop and AC would resume then once back into work the AC would stop and blow warm air... However they don't have the kit to monitor things that I do... The fault... heat from the hard pulling CAT diesel being sucked away from the rad blowing directly off the fan onto the clutch, the heat was expanding a worn down friction hub on the pump causing clutch slip once the pressure got up to 10 bar... Hub dressed and clearance adjustment and we are pumping 18bar pre condenser and evaporator temperature around -10 C so job done now for a two hour drive home ...

Another Jaguar XJS with our AC kit installed, this time the 3.6 XJS-C, now with modern Sanden compressor, parallel flow condenser, new filter drier, high / low pressure switch and thermal expansion valve, running spot on with sub 5C vent temperature on what was a 35C ambient day on Tuesday so an ideal test situation, the parallel flow condenser makes all the difference in keeping the head pressure nice and low , something the original serpentine condenser struggled with running R134a / R1234yf refrigerants.

Quite a rare car these days, MK1 discovery, this being a Lichfield 5.0V8, with a non conventional AC set up with centre console rear AC, leaking HP pipe, not helped by it's proximity to a very hot exhaust downpipe either, the system designer for some bizarre reason chose to split the system pipework using QC ( quick connect) fittings, these are normally found on machine cabs, the idea to enable the cab to be removed easily and retain the gas charge ( never happens as they leak but there we go) this presented a issue as no one stocks much in that type anymore but I was lucky to find one 90 degree for the leaking pipe to enable me to make a new hose up to give front AC operation, new filter drier and oil and the old system was back in operation after a few decades in storage... Lovely drive and brought back some memories of my old MK1 3.5 V8i I had 27 years ago...
