CR Reynolds are proud of the recently completed works at Queens Gardens which reopened to the public today.

This landmark project has delivered extensive improvements to ensure the space can be enjoyed for decades to come. The revitalised gardens now offer enhanced landscaping and planting, improved accessibility, and a more welcoming environment for relaxation and large-scale events.

Hundreds of new trees have been planted as part of a reimagined landscape designed to thrive throughout every season, significantly boosting biodiversity.

Sustainable features, including rain gardens, have also been introduced to improve surface water management.

Accessibility has been a key focus, with new steps, ramps, and pathways carefully integrated across the site. Boundary walls have been rebuilt, new street furniture installed, and upgraded infrastructure delivered to support large-scale events.

A newly created Peace Garden provides a calm and reflective space for visitors, adding another meaningful dimension to the gardens.

CR Reynolds LTD are proud of the recently completed works for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, which were completed 7 months ahead of programme, and have upgraded and improved the existing pedestrianised High Street.

The purpose of the scheme was to create a more vibrant High Street that could be used for multi-purpose events.

The public realm upgrade included:

- Replaced approximately 2,800m² of clay block paving with natural granite and limestone setts and renewed 58m³ of highway foundation affected by historic utility damage.

- 26 new lamp columns with LED lanterns, new feeder pillars to increase capacity, and six LED uplighters to illuminate the Grade II listed Redcar Town Clock.

- Approximately 330m of non-potable water supply for street cleaning, five in-ground event power units and approximately 220m of 150mm electrical ducting to serve the units and provide spare capacity.

- Place making improvements included bespoke illuminated concrete planters with soft landscaping, new trees, bins & 3.6m wide benches, increasing seating to 104.

Interfaces with the adjacent events space build & day to day trading were managed through regular coordination, weekly business liaison & tightly controlled early morning deliveries, including maintaining overnight delivery access to Boots.

Each phase was closed out before hoarding removal to minimise defects. The phasing approach enabled multiple work fronts to run concurrently while maintaining access, resulting in completion 7 months ahead of programme.

Queen’s Gardens is nearing completion, with the next phase which reopened on Friday last week!

A newly created Peace Garden provides a calm and reflective space for visitors, adding another meaningful dimension to the gardens.

Alongside these improvements, a temporary outdoor exhibition will be on display until Sunday 1 June, offering insight into the history of the gardens and the scale of the transformation.

C R Reynolds Ltd are delighted to share that the reconstruction of Fore Gill Bridge has won the Smeaton Award at the 2026 ICE Yorkshire & Humber Civil Engineering Awards, recognising our scheme as the best civil engineering project in the region delivered for under £5 million.

The judges were impressed with how the scheme stands as a model demonstrating that sustainable engineering can be applied to the renewal of ageing rural infrastructure.

Some highlights from the scheme:

🧱 The bridge was constructed as a true masonry arch, something rarely constructed in modern times

⛏️ Excess stone from the demolition was crushed and reused in the new structure, resulting in ZERO waste leaving the site

🛣️ A 200m temporary bypass was constructed so the community experienced no travel disruptions

🤝 Collaboration and open book accounting with our valued client North Yorkshire Council.

Many challenges were overcome including difficult ground conditions, ecological constraints, utilising stonework from the existing bridge, reconstruction of the true masonry arch, maintaining programme during adverse weather conditions.
