Sourcing reclaimed roof tiles is never an easy task. With so many different styles, sizes, names, and colours, finding the correct match can take time and often involves a lot of travelling.

We are currently undertaking a partial re-roof, where matching the existing tiles is essential. After initially sourcing what we believed to be enough for the job, it quickly became clear once work began that additional tiles would be required.

Following numerous telephone calls this morning an unsuccessful trip to West Hull this afternoon, we then found that the tiles we had gone to collect were the wrong type within the system, meaning further calls were needed to continue the search.

We have now tracked down a potential match in York, so we are continuing the search and heading there next to secure the correct tiles and keep the project moving forward.

Wish us luck—it’s going to be a late finish today!

Happy Monday! Back to work after a well-earned Sunday off.

Today’s project is a partial re-roof, starting with the careful removal of the solar panels before roof repairs begin. The panels will be safely reinstalled once the work is complete.

Scaffolding is up, the team is ready, and now we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the weather as rain is forecast for later this afternoon, but we’re hoping it passes us by! 🌦️🔨

Preserving Tradition: Why Lead-Lined Timber is the Gold Standard. ⭐️

Why do we line timber gutters with lead? 🤔

Traditional wooden gutters offer a timeless look, but they are naturally vulnerable to the British weather. Without a specialist liner:

• ✅ Water Seepage: Moisture penetrates the grain, leading to inevitable wet rot.
• ✅ Joint Failure: Movement causes joints to expand and leak over time.
• ✅ Constant Upkeep: Maintenance quickly becomes a yearly (and costly) headache.

By installing a bespoke lead lining, we create a durable, flexible, and 100% waterproof barrier. It’s the gold standard for heritage and high-end properties protecting the character of the building while ensuring it stays bone dry.

Another busy week for R Cunningham Roofing team.

This project involved the full removal of the existing timber guttering system and careful installation of a new replacement, designed to be in keeping with the property. The works included new fascias, detailed architraves, and internal lead lining to the timber gutters, along with careful preparation and finishing to ensure long-lasting protection and performance.

The weather certainly tested us this week. We were rained off on Wednesday afternoon, but still made good use of the time by priming the timber ready for installation and finishing.

Thursday brought more rain, so we headed over to Hull to collect additional materials and keep everything ready to go as soon as conditions improved.

Friday turned into a long one, with a 7:30pm finish after a solid 10-hour day while the weather finally allowed us to push on.

We then returned Saturday morning and were pleased to get the job finished by around 12:30pm.

A lot of hard work has gone into this one despite the conditions, and we’re really pleased with the finished result.

We’ve also had some lovely comments from neighbours about the work, which is always great to hear “thank you”, it’s very much appreciated.

Thanks again to the customer for their patience while we worked around the weather and jobs suitable to keep our schedule moving forward.

Working at height with heavy chimney pots is always a demanding part of the job.

With access being a challenge on this property, the customer kindly assisted by using his telehandler to lift materials safely up to scaffold level, helpful in taking some of the strain off the team and keeping the job moving efficiently.

Support like this is always appreciated and makes a real difference on more demanding jobs.

Another completed job in Leven ✔️

Partial rebuild of two chimneys including new flaunching, installation of reclaimed chimney pots, and fitting of bird cowls to prevent nesting.

The reclaimed pots were sourced by the customer from a local supplier Antiques-reclaimed.Co.UK / Atwick's own salvage hunters and Robert attended to select the best four for the job prior to collection.

We also carried out valley repairs, refitting multiple slates and ensuring everything is watertight and secure.

Scaffolding installed for safe access and all works completed to a high standard — great teamwork from all three of the team throughout, finishing late on Saturday evening to unload scaffolding after the job was completed.

All wrapped up now and enjoying a well-earned rest tomorrow ✝️

Working out in Leven today! ☀️

Blue skies and a busy morning getting stuck in. Started the day early loading up scaffolding onto the truck, ready to get it up and in place so work can begin a lot of preparation goes into every job, especially when it comes to chimney work.

In this case, it’s the chimney we’ll be working on… and I think you’ll all agree, it’s not a low-built house! 🏠⬆️

Making sure everything is set up safely and correctly is key before we get started. Having the weather on our side makes a massive difference and keeps everything moving smoothly.

We’re extremely grateful to all our customers for your patience and understanding — especially with our current waiting list (we know it’s a long one).

All of our work is weather dependent. While some jobs can still be carried out in colder or wet conditions, many can’t, which means we’re not always able to give exact dates and times. Every job is different and doesn’t always follow a strict schedule, but we always aim to keep things moving as smoothly as possible.

The fact that so many of you are willing to wait for us really does speak volumes. We’re incredibly proud of the reputation we’ve built and truly grateful for the continued support, it means everything to us! 👏🏽
