⚒️ The Reality of Running a Small Joinery Business ⚒️
There’s something we’d like to be honest about.
When people see a delayed job, they often see a date that has changed. What they don’t always see is what has happened behind the scenes to cause it.
This year has been one of the toughest we’ve experienced as a business post Covid. We started the year battling snow, followed by prolonged periods of rain and high winds that affected progress on site. Then Gav suffered a broken hand in an accident involving a van door during strong winds, leaving us without our main joiner for over five weeks. Shortly afterwards, Mason handed in his notice, reducing our workforce even further.
As a small business, we don’t have spare teams sitting waiting to step in. When one person is injured or a member of staff leaves, the impact is huge. It affects every job in the diary, not just one.
While most of our customers have been incredibly supportive and understanding, we know delays can be frustrating and appreciate that not everyone will feel the same. All we ask is that people remember we’re a small team doing our best to navigate circumstances that were completely beyond our control.
Despite everything, we’ve continued to turn up, work long hours, juggle schedules, and do everything possible to keep projects moving. Gav has even given up his planned holidays this year to help reduce the backlog and minimise further delays for customers.
We’re incredibly grateful to those clients who have shown patience, understanding and support. It doesn’t go unnoticed, and it makes a difficult situation much easier to manage.
We remain committed to delivering the quality of workmanship and service that GJS Joinery is known for. We’d rather be honest about timescales and do the job properly than rush work and compromise on standards.
Thank you for your continued support of our small family business ❤️
