We recently completed an interesting fuseboard relocation project in Crail, Fife.
The client was having a new kitchen installed, but the existing fuseboard was awkwardly located inside a base unit cupboard. The kitchen company’s electrician wasn’t comfortable taking on the job — so we stepped in to help. ⚡️

Challenges included:
• An old twin & earth supply buried in concrete with no RCD protection. ❌

• Running a new 16mm SWA cable from one side of the property to the other to replace old supply cable.

• Core drilling through a 1-metre thick solid stone wall 🥵

We safely relocated the fuseboard using a Wago whiska relocation box with maintenance free connections.

We positioned the new consumer unit neatly under the bedroom window (where a new cupboard will be built).

The surface trunking and flexible conduit will be completely hidden once the kitchen is fitted.

Another satisfied client and a job completed to the highest standard. ✅

Today’s job – a very lucky escape! 🔥⚡

At DNA Electrical Projects Ltd, we just finished our last emergency call-out of 2025, and this customer got incredibly lucky.

They noticed a burning smell while at home and immediately switched off the main power – that quick thinking almost certainly prevented a serious fire. The culprit? Their old Wylex fuseboard with rewirable fuses was overheating badly (you can see the signs of heat damage and loose connections in the photos).

We carried out an emergency consumer unit replacement, installing a brand new modern FuseBox unit with full RCD protection, surge protection, and properly torqued connections for maximum safety.

Modern consumer units are a game-changer compared to old fuseboards:

• Faster, more reliable protection against shocks and overloads
• RCDs that trip in milliseconds
• No more rewirable fuses – just simple resets
• Better fire prevention

Key safety tips:

• Get your electrical installation professionally inspected (EICR) – recommended every 10 years for homeowners (or every 5 years/change of tenancy for rentals).

• Have your consumer unit connections checked and torqued with a proper torque screwdriver during servicing to prevent loose terminals causing heat and fires.
