Great afternoon last Friday The Borough in Lancaster for L N Joinery NW Limited annual workshop & training day.

Plenty of checks, reviews, learning, discussions, interaction and team socialising. It was great to get most of the company together in one place. Thank you for those who helped put the day together at very short notice.

Thank you to Robin Dobson for his tool box talk on Asbestos and Fire extinguishers . We have worked closely with Robin for over 7 years now as our H&S advisor.

We were also able to carry out company Paslode nail gun competency certification and Asbestos awareness certification.

We followed the training day by attending “The flying axe factory” at Kanteena in Lancaster. Something none of us have tried before, but thoroughly enjoyed. The head Viking award went to our own standout axe thrower - Working Supervisor - Alistair Roskell. Great fun and laugh to finish the day off.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas Doo and next years bigger and better Annual company workshop and training day.

We are excited to offer the opportunity to join one of North west’s leading Joinery contractors as a

Assistant / Graduate / Trainee Quantity Surveyor

This role is ideal for individuals who are currently enrolled, looking to start, or have recently completed a Quantity Surveying degree. The assistant will support daily tasks, contributing to our team's success in managing project costs and procurement processes. Further more the focus of the role is helping to provide pre and post-contract quantity surveying services with the ability to prepare cost plans, estimates, bills of quantities and tender evaluations engaging with all parts of the business to ensure a professionalism and detail at all times.

This role is also working as part of an enthusiastic and dynamic team where you will be responsible for the following:

Quantity Surveying

· Attending pre-tender site inspections and post tender meetings

· Ordering materials in line with schedules

· Take off from drawings

· Producing bill of quants from drawings

· Tracking project progress for monthly valuations

· Site measures and back up evidence of additional variations

· Submitting monthly valuations and chasing up payment

· Retention monitoring and chasing up payment

· Managing variation accounts

· Monitoring progress and programme to ensure prelim costs are covered.

Candidate Profile / Requirements

- GCSE Maths & English (required).

- Construction-based BTEC or NVQ (preferred).

- HND/HNC in a relevant construction discipline (preferred).

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT tools (required).

- Valid driving license (required).

· working towards or recently achieved Bachelors BSc in Quantity Surveying.

· 1-2 Year QS experience, with particular focus on carpentry and joinery (desirable)

· Experience in take-offs and producing BOQs for all aspects of joiner works

· Ability to quantify labour, plant, and material requirements.
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.

· Happy to travel North west wide to meet clients and sites.

· Experience working on site

- Well presented and professional mannerism

Job description

You will be required to undertake the following tasks.
- Good clear communication via emails, phone calls and meetings
- Use of word and excel documents including PDF drawings and bill of quantities
- Requesting of samples of materials for client / architect confirmation
- Pricing of materials including sending out drawings and enquires to suppliers and manufacturers
- Pricing of projects including mark-up percentage and labour rates
- Procuring and purchasing of materials and fixings via purchase orders
- Collating datasheets and information from orders and suppliers
- Small administrative tasks
- Taking of deliveries to the office / yard
- There will be other works involved that are similar to the above.

Experience required

- Good knowledge of joinery tasks / products / Materials, whether that be from working in construction or within a builder’s merchants.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and similar
- Professional mannerism
