We are saddened to hear of the passing of Jeanette Sunderland and send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Jeanette was a staunch supporter of BFT from the very beginning. Her passion for helping people in her community, especially children and young people, led her to invite us to deliver free sessions at Springfield Youth Centre.

She leaves a lasting legacy, having positively changed the lives of so many. We are grateful for the time we spent with Jeanette, and will continue to honour her memory through the sessions she started.

Places at our facility are in demand and we have a desire to take our sessions into the community especially to those who are unable to get to us.

With the support of G&H Group who continue to support us through their social values we have negotiated the purchase of our first Building Futures Together vehicle.

Our aim is to get into schools and communities to engage, encourage and nurture young people towards a career.

Another great week, these young people have been participating in various different tasks and challenges. Ranging from beginning to advanced, learning new skills and seeking job opportunities.

One of the young persons, has applied to Leeds College of Building, as they want to seek a career within plumbing.

Last week as part of the Leeds City Council Outer West Leeds funded sessions we followed instruction to measure, cut and install 41x41 unistrut, we were creating a small corridor mock up which also included cut threaded rod ( to measurements) square plates, washers and nuts, 15mm copper pipe was used as per the instructions whilst others tested their bending skills. Giving young people an opportunity within the construction industry

Thanks to the Leeds City Council outer west youth activity fund we provide FREE places during the summer holidays.

Our sessions provides a great experience for young people especially those who may want to try a career within construction.

It’s aimed at school year’s 9, 10 and 11 who live in the Pudsey, Calverley, Farsley, Farnley and Wortley.

Meeting with ASDAN today and we are delighted to say that our sessions will be included in the booklets as part of a recognised and approved programme, we will deliver these at our facility and in the community.

We have a passion to engage, encourage and nurture young people giving them an opportunity to discover and develop their skills.

Another great session yesterday working with our partners the Springfield Centre, having Hanson High School in the morning and the young people from the community in the evening.

The young people participated within some plumbing and electrical exercises, the plumbing consisted of installing three radiators, using 41 x 21 unistrut. Furthermore, the electrical side created a wire rack to use and leave at the Springfield Centre.

The evening session, the young people created a copper radiator, which was soldered and tested! Great work by each and everyone of these young people.

Finally, one of the young pupils from Hanson High said yesterday “I use to hate Mondays, but now I’m buzzing because I get to do this”. We want to inspire young people into careers within construction.
