🔐 Before & After — Garage Back Door Lock Upgrade in LE3, Leicester

Here’s a recent job completed in LE3 Leicester on a timber garage back door.

The original mortice sashlock had failed, leaving the door unsafe and difficult to use. I gained entry, removed the old worn lock and replaced it with a brand-new British Standard mortice sashlock, along with a fresh set of chrome mortice handles to tidy everything up nicely.

As part of the job, I also made sure the door was properly aligned so the new lock works smoothly and isn’t under unnecessary pressure. This is a big part of making sure the lock lasts longer and doesn’t prematurely fail again.

The door is now locking properly, operating smoothly and looking much cleaner with the new hardware fitted ✅

A classic case of a composite door that decided not to open! 🗝️🚪

This Blaby customer was stuck when the handle spindle suddenly stopped engaging the lock. They couldn't open the door from the inside or outside.

As you can see in the photos, the internal cam on the gearbox was cracked! This is often caused by a door that is misaligned, forcing the mechanism to work too hard.

A1 Lukes Locksmiths was on hand to:

✅ Replace the faulty gearbox (getting the spindle back in action).

✅ Fit brand-new handles (looking sharp!)

✅ Install a fresh euro cylinder.

Not all locks are created equal! 🛠️🏙️

I was in Leicester City Centre today at an apartment complex dealing with a serious piece of hardware: an old Assa Abloy disc-detainer cylinder. These are notoriously difficult to get into, but I managed a clean, non-destructive entry to get the utility door open.

Because this door sits right on a busy street with constant foot traffic, I didn’t just want to put "any" lock back in.
