Well it’s getting to that time of year that wasps are becoming a problem in Leicester and around the country.

Queen wasps have been slowly building their nests over the last couple of months after waking up from their winter slumber. They build a small nest and lay 8-12 eggs, the queen will tend to these eggs when they hatch by feeding the grub until they then turn into workers. Once the workers emerge the queen will stay in the nest while they take over the building and feeding of the grubs, in turn the grubs feed the workers a sweet liquid.

When a nest gets to this point it can double in size on a weekly basis, they queen is an egg laying machine and the workers don’t mind working 16-20 hours a day for less than minimum wage. They will only live around 3 weeks so the queen must keep laying eggs for the nest to thrive.

This is the time to start looking out for travelling wasps, if they are flying to one area of your house, garden or business then it’s likely you have a nest. Get it treated early so it does not cause you problems later in peak summer. Nests now might be 20-100 wasps but in peak summer they can number in the thousands.

•Tiles cleaned down around the panels by scrapping and then treated with a biocide
•Gutters cleaned out and treated with a biocide
•Fitting of solar panel mesh all the way around the panels to prevent access to all birds. This is done with the best materials available that are specially designed not to damage the panels in any way. The fixings used are plastic UV resistant and slot under the panel trim so no mechanical fixings are used. PU coated Galvanised metal mesh is used so no risk of tearing or rusting through. For long standing protection this is the best option available on the market today.

GC pest control would like to wish all of our customers and followers a Merry Christmas!

2025 has been our most successful year to date and we could not have done it without you! We will be closing down for Christmas this year so today will be our last day, we will be opening up again on 5th of January.
