A tale of two libraries… 📚🔐😉

I seem to be working my way through the local library collection at the moment! 😂

First chapter of the day was Southend Library, where I replaced a faulty digital lock.

Then it was on to Westcliff Library, where the sash lock wouldn't engage properly. Thankfully, this one didn't need replacing... I removed and adjusted the keep, and soon it was locking nice and smoothly again. 💪

Two libraries, two different lock problems and both sorted.

I suppose you could say it was all done by the book! 😂📖 No shortcuts. 😁

And as always, if something can be adjusted and repaired rather than unnecessarily replaced, that's exactly what I'll do. 💯

Moving house comes with a never-ending list of things to remember… and this gentleman in Rochford discovered one more to add to it! 🏡🔑

He'd sold his house but couldn't find the key for the kitchen door, so he called me to get it opened and replace the lock, ready for the new owners.

All sorted, new keys provided and one less thing for him to worry about before handing the property over. 👍

If you're moving, it's worth checking all your doors and windows have working locks and keys before moving day. And if you find one that doesn't… give me a call! 🤗

Talk about bad timing! 😳✈️

I had a message from a lady in Rayleigh who had just left home to catch a flight. As she shut the door behind her, her key got stuck in the lock. 😱

Not exactly what you need when you've got a plane to catch! 😭

Luckily, she had someone who could meet me at the property, so she carried on with her journey while I went over and fitted a new lock for her.

Job sorted, house secure, and she paid me once her plane had landed. 😊

I think that's a lovely example of the trust that goes both ways when you're a small local business. She trusted me to get her home secure while she was away, and I was quite happy to let her get on with catching her flight and worry about paying me afterwards. 🫶🏻

Hopefully she could then enjoy her trip with one less thing to think about! ✈️🔐

A little security upgrade for a lady on Canvey Island. 🔐

I replaced her existing cylinder with a thumb turn cylinder, meaning the door can now be locked and unlocked from the inside without having to find or use a key. 😉

It's a simple change, but it can make a big difference, particularly if you ever need to get out of the house quickly in an emergency.

A recent job in Stanford-le-Hope involved replacing a broken letter plate on a customer's front door after the outside flap had snapped off. 🫣

It's one of those small repairs that makes a big difference. Not only does it smarten up the front door, but it also helps keep the weather out. ✅

Many people know me for locks and emergency call-outs, but I can also help with all sorts of door furniture, from letter plates, door knockers and handles to hinges, locks and security upgrades. 😁

One of my recent jobs involved attending a property after an eviction to ensure it was secure for the landlady. 🤗

I replaced both the front and back door locks, and while I was there, I also helped with a few additional jobs that came up that day. 💪

It's always nice when customers appreciate not only the work carried out, but also the willingness to help with those unexpected little extras. 😁

The landlady left a wonderful Google review afterwards, where she mentioned my professionalism, fair pricing, and how happy she was with the service she received.

I honestly can't believe there are now just over 1,200 people following Grants Locks here on Facebook. 🤯

As a small local business, every follow, every like, every comment, every share and every recommendation genuinely helps my business to grow. The fact that so many of you continue to recommend me to your friends, family and neighbours means more than you probably realise. 💙

Just after midnight on Friday, I received a call from a customer who was locked out because the key wouldn't turn in the mortise lock. 😱

Being locked out of your own home is stressful enough, but standing on your doorstep in the middle of the night makes it even worse. 💯

Thankfully, I was able to get him safely back inside and recommended replacing the lock, not only because it had failed but because it also didn't meet current fire regulations. 🚫🔥

He called me back this week, and I returned to replace everything properly. ✅

It did get me thinking though... emergencies don't just happen between 9 and 5.

Whether it's midnight, early morning or a bank holiday, if someone is locked out or unable to secure their home, I can't just leave them waiting until the next day. That's why I'm available 24 hours a day. 🤗

So here's one favour I'd ask... save my number now, before you ever need it. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but if you do, there'll be no panic searching online while you're standing outside your front door.

Sometimes I joke that locksmiths are the fourth emergency service... but when you're locked out in the middle of the night, it really can feel that way. 🫶
