🚧 Great to see works well underway for this residential extension in Harpenden. We were appointed for the structural design and underground drainage design.

🏡 Proposals comprise the formation of a new basement in the rear garden, a complex arrangement with tight site constraints and neighbouring structures to consider. Maytree Group have navigated the tight site constraints well and executed the basement works exceptionally.

Good to see the Jarvis Homes site progressing at Blackhorse Lane in Redbourn, Hertfordshire.

We provided full structural and civil engineering design for six detached 4-bed homes, all of which are equipped with air source heat pumps, solar pv panels and electric car charging points. Completion for these homes is anticipated in early 2027 and we look forward to seeing the end result.

👷‍♂️ Our Business Development Manager, Matt swapped business development for wine development last week as he hosted a fantastic team wine tasting evening, complete with charcuterie, fine cheeses, and wines from around the world. 🍷 🧀

From blind tastings to learning the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting, the night was full of surprises, laughs and a few dangerously good pours. Huge thanks to Matt for organising such a brilliant evening and to Darren for the original idea. Safe to say, we’ll be doing it again.

Matt joined us in March in a brand-new role focused on bringing in new contacts and developing our profile.
With a background owning his own wine business and holding senior sales roles within the wine trade, he brings a wealth of commercial expertise to the team.
Outside work, Matt is a father of four (tiring!) and a loyal Luton Town FC supporter, the definition of patience!

We are pleased to be providing structural and civil engineering design services for a new single-storey extension to the main college building, designed by Idea Architectural Technology

The scheme will deliver four new classrooms, a dedicated food technology room, alongside a new dining area and kitchen facilities to support the growing needs of the college.

Design works are currently progressing, with construction anticipated to commence on site early this Summer.

Very satisfying to see this new-build development of houses and bungalows at Mouse Farm in Clophill, Bedfordshire, now completed.
Working alongside Inigo Architecture, we provided structural engineering services for the site, initially in 2020 for the first plot.

Darren, Carmen and Olly from dbstructural recently visited the H.G. Matthews brickworks in Chesham alongside our client, to explore materials for a new-build project.
Introduced to us by our sustainability-conscious client designing their new home, the visit gave us a real insight into the craftsmanship behind brickmaking. Since 1923, H.G. Matthews has been preserving the art of handmade, woodfired and bespoke bricks using the clay of the Chiltern Hills to create timeless materials full of character and quality.

What made this visit even more interesting was exploring STROCKS for our client's project. This innovative blockmaking method creates unfired blocks from clay, straw and water. A low-carbon option, the compressive strength of these blocks varies subject to the type of clay used but typically provides a minimum of 2.5N and up to 6.5N for London Clay.

While Middle East ceasefire extensions are likely to continue for another three weeks, we've been monitoring the impact on structural steel and concrete reinforcing bar costs.

According to BCIS, concrete reinforcing steel prices have fallen 7.2% annually, offering some relief. However, overall material costs remain elevated, with new housing up 3.4% in February and fabricated structural steel rising 2.7% on the month.

While ceasefire discussions bring some optimism, disruption to shipping and energy infrastructure means price fluctuation is likely to continue. We’re helping clients make significant savings through smarter structural design, reducing steel usage and reusing materials where possible. Early engagement during RIBA stages remains key to maximising efficiency.
