Where there's a will, there's a way...

Sunday spent putting the finishing touches to this beautiful kitchen diner we have had the pleasure of working on for ✌

We knew early on the addition of pendants above the dining room table was going to cause a problem 🤨
The chosen method of lighting this area was track lighting. The apex of the vaulted ceiling, the position of the bi-fold doors and the preferred position of the dining table meant these pendants were not going to hang straight off the track centre of the table! 😬

Problems are made to be solved though, so the brain started ticking and an evening was spent trawling and . 🧠🛒🌐

We ended up going with a polished chrome screw type cable clamp used for dressing stage/ set lighting. 10m of 3core twisted braided flex proved an easy find. Purposely leaving the belly in the flex from track to cable clamp added a small bit of character to some already gorgeous light fittings and hinted that all was intended. Not ideal tearing apart a new fitting, in hindsight, a request of longer flex would have saved time, but these were customer supplied.

We think it turned out well, plenty of "this way a bit, that way a bit" and measuring twice but we achieved 2 things....

Another Saturday shift 😒 🥱

I got a nice little treat to break me in though 🎁
I picked up this little beauty by from .buzzard 😍

I've always used a USB tester during testing, I have usb sockets fail out of the box in the past!
The last pic shows the little tester I had, only good for USB A but a decent little bit of kit from . I seem to be installing more and more USB C lately, more and more of the bits a purchase or install now use
USB C, so thought I better upgrade....😏

This klein unit does USB A and C. Plug her in and a healthy outlet will give you Voltage, current, capacity, energy, resistance with multiple memory and load monitoring. 📉

I like this little thing, she's goes straight in the starting 11 of the testing bag 👕🏟🥇

Heres a little mention to the manufacturer of this beautiful polished nickel USB socket. Tested out just fine ✅ 👌😍

Hand over day(s)........😣🤲🤝😊🏃‍♂️

Its been a while coming but we have spent the last couple of days completing and handing over one of our St.Albans Projects.

I've fallen in love with this one the closer the finish has come. Mainly I would say because its been so nice to work with a client who knows her taste and interior design flavour and has allowed and encouraged me to do what I want (with in reason) with thier lighting.

This couple will be moving back and settling in over the next week. A period in which we ask they list 📝 anything they may want adjusting, setting up and general snags (if any 😏) ready for a final return and bye bye 👋

We've seen a few items be moved in, furniture, wall dressings etc, its about now it starts to become a home 🏡 and the lighting you have installed comes into its own 🥰💡
From a homemade LED moon light or back lit picture frame of picture frames, tape by , to a staircase lying Buddha taking centre stage between a couple of .led
up lights, without objects to light, its just a box of light......

My favourite rule..... dont try to fill a room with light, light features with in the room. 🤓
Unless your skint, 30 down lights in a box bedroom will help pay the rent 😉

Back for a day once the dust has settled, the postage stamp sized snag list 🤥 has been completed and I can get some nice pics of her finished and lived in. 🏁

Weekends here though so time to switch off 📴 and not spend the weekend finishing my own batbroom!! 😒

Been thinking of buying the electricians level but don't want to retire my 2' , we've been through a lot together...... 🥰👫

She's seen some use, pulled some long shifts, been lost 😭 and found 😃, gained some tattoo's and settled a few arguments "its yours skirting thats pi**ed pal 🤬"

A cupboard full of spurs and isolators...... 😍🤢

This kitchen in particular has a lot of integrated appliances 🔌

One goal in any kitchen we are involved in is to minimise the number of spurs/ isolators on view 👁 their not the prettiest of things at the best of times! From my understanding and IMO, with integrated gear we should be able to isolate locally, for practicality, sometimes safety and general good workmanship 🤓
A dedicated appliance ring was also the way we went here 🧠

One method we use is a switched socket outlet in a neighbouring cupboard. Not my no1 😐 I prefer not having to empty multiple cupboards full of bleach and fly spray 🦟 when fault finding!

Grid switch....a method we used to use all the time, the smaller gerally on show, the larger ones we would put in the back of a cupboard. Again having to mess about with a busy one when fault finding can be a pain, especially if the previous sparkle was a scuffy bastard! 🍝🤪

A bank of spurs and isolators is our preferred method atm. 🥰

First thing, we are asking the client at design stage what they would prefer, 9/10 times is the bank of remote spurs, we then go on to decide which cupboard to use. Our preferred being wide and shallow 😁 and always making sure the back panel is solid and fixed.

The chippy is knocking up a removable back panel for this one too.

Everybody has their own way of doing things.....

The last 3 or 4 jobs has seen us change the way we wire for outside/ garden lighting.
🏡💡

From a central location 📍 (usually next to the DB) we have started running 3core+e to each circuit of lights, to things like PIR's & photocells 🌖
Basically the same principle as central heating wiring or wired lighting control systems.

We find it keeps the hole system much more adaptable and easy to alter should the client have a change of heart in the future. For lights that are simply switched, we will often run a cable for PIR etc anyway.

With the growing popularity of wireless devices 📶 you could say its a waste of time and money! 💸 But in my bible its says you'll never beat a bit of cable, especially with spare and room for additions 📖 🤔

A nice simple one for a Sunday. Changing out shaver points for combi toothbrush/ shaver points. 🦷🪒

Anything that eliminates trailing leads is a winner in my book and these feel and look great, with decorative bezzle's available too!

Reckon a new toothbrush is called for next 🧐🤮

Its been a fair few years 🗓 since I even entertained the idea of moving away from my .k_tools combi side cutters...

And I'm not about to start!

But new for 2️⃣2️⃣ welcoming to the squad, these absolute beauties! ❤

With a shed load of 2nd fix awaiting my return to work Wednesday 😭 there's an interesting battle shaping up 🛠
for a place in my starting 11.
Only one place is reserved in the pouch for combi's!

Let the battle begin...........

I do love a knife and don't usually complicate the process, the 6in1 is on thin ice already but ill give it a run out. The will can stay because it simply looks the business. 😍
