A few pics from last weeks classes. How pleased does Debbie look to be stitching her back on! Celia’s Parker Knoll frame she bought now has a new tailor made back cushion. And it looks very smart! Julie has finished her first ever upholstery project - this storage footstool. And in her own words she says it’s “bonkers” 😂. A proper show stopper and it’s the first time Julie has used the sewing machine. Julie has done a brilliant job. Next up is Philippa with her French style chair. This was a recover but these frames are tricky as there is not much tack off space on the rails and the back pad is especially challenging to make sure you don’t end up with staples on the edge of the rails coming through the fabric at the back. This turned out beautifully too, even after a close call with some sticky stuff remover which leaked onto the fabric on the back pad and stained it. Philippa managed to get that out with the good old iron!! 😮‍💨

If you fancy joining our leisure classes next term drop us a message - spaces available on our morning class. Our next term of classes Lannock Farm start mid September.

An absolute whopper of a footstool, made by converting a coffee table for one of our customers. You can’t not love that gorgeous Linwood Fabric Helter Skelter velvet. Paired with Trimont Trimmings Mam Tor Braid and beautifully executed by our very own Harriet Greig. It’s now back home and a great statement piece for the lounge, with Mabel fully approving the conversion (scroll to see). We can create your very own bespoke footstool. Chose your size, leg style, fillings, fabric and any trimmings. In this case we converted an existing piece of furniture but we can build from scratch too. Why not drop in and see us?

Off with that terrible foam and felt and back to the original fillings, well with a little extra bit shoved on top 🙈. We won’t be putting any foam on here needless to say! Been admiring the original upholsterer’s work on the shape of that scroll. Brilliant!!

The Halabala left for home today but first the obligatory photo session in the sunshine ☀️ . Full renovation on the seat has given it its full shape back - new webs, original sprung unit refitted, tarpaulin hessian to shore up the top of the original foundation hessian, then stuffed pad back on, new felts seat and back. New calico and smart new wool fabric top cover from Vibrance collection - New Orleans Silver Multi. We also dealt with the scuffed front legs and gave the finish on the fabulous arms some love too. Proper team effort from us. Can’t fault that pattern matching from the dj .

Who doesn’t love a label. This one is on the sprung unit in the seat of the Halabala style chair. Had to strip it out to replace the webbing. Original pads going back on as they are fine.

In for new togs this 1950s halabala style chair. It’s a refreshing treat to strip back. So much so we wanted to share some of the pics. All original and not a staple in sight. Going to be covered in one of the lovely wools from their Vibrance. Collection. Little bit of remedial work, new webs under the sprung unit and some finishing work on the topside of the arms and feet which are water damaged and worn.

Giant rush chair or tiny armchair 🤔 🤣. How fabulous is this miniature rush chair. Finished today by Alison in our afternoon class. It had seen better days when Alison bought it, broken stretcher and tired frame. Roll forward and it’s now ready for service again.

A day of variety in our upholstery classes today . Anna’s lovely chair in the manner of Bruce J Talbert got its first coats of black finish. Using Lamp Black pigment, a lovely deep black. Will need to be knocked back a little (bit glossy at the mo) and then some gilding to pick out the incised carved details. Before cracking on with the rest of the upholstery. Julie getting stuck in for her first go with the sewing machine and she smashed it. Having done a fair few big projects Tracy is doing a smaller project this time and is speeding along with her stool top. Philippa’s French style chair is almost ready for fabric, back pad next. Peter is cracking on with the seat of his Edwardian tub chair. And Alison, having finished her cane stool, is tackling some rush weaving on a cute little child’s chair. We love the variety of projects that our lovely peeps bring to class! If you fancy having a go at some upholstery or seat weaving come and see us or drop us a message.
