Refurbishing a solid wood kitchen worktop properly isn’t just a quick sand and oil job—it’s all about patience and doing each stage right 👷‍♂️🔨

This one had the usual wear and tear: knife marks, water staining around the sink, and a finish that had completely broken down. First step was a full assessment to make sure the timber was still sound and worth restoring (most are).

From there:
– Stripped it right back with a coarse sand to remove damage and old finish
– Worked progressively through finer grits to get a consistent, smooth surface
– Paid extra attention around joints, edges, and sink areas (where problems usually hide)
– Thorough clean-down to remove all dust before finishing
– Finished with multiple coats of a natural oil & wax based product, allowing proper drying time between coats.

No shortcuts—because that’s what makes the difference between a job that lasts a few months and one that holds up for years. You can see how much of a difference is made by removing the old varnish and coating with natural oil/wax, enhancing the natural characteristics.

Always good to show clients that refurbishment is often a solid alternative to replacement. Same worktop, completely different result 👍
