SUNDAY INTERIOR INSPIRATION

There's something special about a beautifully decorated period property.
Original features, traditional mouldings and carefully chosen colours can give a room real character.
Personally, I think some of the best interiors combine traditional details with contemporary colours.
But here's a question...
Would you keep the woodwork traditional white, or paint the skirting boards, doors & maybe even the ceiling the same colour as the walls?
I'd love to know what everyone thinks?

🖌️ DECORATING TIP OF THE WEEK

Want a finish that still looks great years from now? Don’t skip the preparation!

It’s tempting to get straight to the exciting part and start painting, but the best results begin long before the first coat goes on.

Filling imperfections, sanding surfaces, cleaning everything down and choosing the right paints for the situation can make the difference between a finish that looks good for six months and one that stays looking great for years.

After nearly 20 years in the trade, I’ve learned that good preparation simply can’t be rushed.

This property belongs to a loyal, long-term client whose home I first painted almost a decade ago. Since then, I’ve returned for upkeep—proof that quality workmanship speaks for itself.

The main challenge this time was the north-facing render, which had been prone to damp and fungal growth. To ensure a long lasting result, I applied Sandtex Smooth Masonry in Soft White, enhanced with an Owatrol UK anti-fungicide additive (supplied by Lincoln Crown Decorating Centre). This combination gives a durable, clean finish that will stand up to the elements for years to come

Next, attention turned to the Windows that had suffered from heavy sun exposure and had begun to rot in one place. Using the Repair Care system, I restored the woodwork before finishing with Macpherson Trade Paints white gloss, perfectly contrasted against Crown Trade ‘Leaf Green – RAL 6001’ gloss on the doors and sills.

Finally, the ironwork gates were fully prepped and protected with Bedec MSP, ensuring both durability and a stylish lustre.

The results? Windows that are safeguarded for another 3–5 years and render protection expected to last up to a decade with minimal maintenance.

Today, I completed a renovation of a bathroom in a character-rich property located in the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln. The space had experienced significant water damage which had needed the re-plastering of one wall. The client expressed a strong appreciation for the existing décor and requested a refresh that maintained the same color scheme in a sympathetic manner. Prior to painting, I addressed several issues arising from the water ingress to ensure a high-quality finish.

The paint used was to same spec as had previously been used which was a Armstead Trade soft sheen and Dulux Trade satin supplied by Brewers Decorator Centres

Another day, another happy customer 👨🏻‍🎨🤝🏼😁

Challenging bedroom to tackle today, room had severe cracks and some mould growth.

After giving the mould a good seeing to, raking out all the cracks and filling throughout the walls had a good sand and I used Crown Trade Paint Anti-mould Clean Extreme from Lincoln Crown Decorating Centre
This is a fantastic product for use on areas that suffer from mould and can be used on kitchens and bathrooms which are particularly susceptible to moisture and humidity which can be a cause of mould growth if you’re lacking sufficient ventilation
