Bank to be steeped West Country style with existing flora during the winter 2026/27.

Message from the Naval Helicopter Pilots about Ten Tors over the weekend.

HORSE RIDERS

Horse riders are advised that there will be an increase in low‑flying helicopters operating around Dartmoor this week. It is often difficult for aircrew to see horse riders from the air, so please assume that if you can see a helicopter, the crew may not be able to see you.

Wearing high‑visibility clothing while riding can significantly improve your visibility to helicopter crews. Aircrew will always do their utmost to avoid riders when they are able to see them.

Riding in the vicinity of Okehampton Camp is discouraged due to ongoing helicopter operations from the site.

DRONE FLYING

The operation of drones presents a serious hazard to low‑flying helicopters. Drone flying remains prohibited over the Military Estate. If a drone operator hears an approaching helicopter, they must land their drone immediately and keep it grounded until the aircraft has passed. Any drone activity that does not comply with these rules will be reported to, and dealt with by, the police.

After many motor vehicle related impacts it was time for a radical design change in order to give this unlucky wallend a long impact free life. 🙏

Cornish granite scratching posts not only add alittle character they also provide the new Devon Bank with a first line of defence. The scratching posts sit well within the footprint of the previous quoin end.

………and this is why Cornish Hedges, Devon Banks and drystone walls shouldn’t be repaired with mortar or concrete !!!!!!!

One of the primary functions of such structures in the uplands is to stem and manage our ever changing weather.

Built correctly water simply passes through the back of the bank reducing the stress of built up water levels on the field side of the bank.

Today’s weather just demonstrates how effective these structures can be in doing this.
