Bear Hug Campers Crafting exceptional campervans and off-grid electrical systems

21/08/2026

This is the process for getting perfect finish painted Campervan furniture..

Once all the Campervan cabinets doors and drawer fronts are cut, hinges and catches are fitted, finger holes drilled and then starts the process of prepping every surface for paint.

Cleaning and sanding every surface and softening the sharp edges.

These are having just the front faces painted and the rest is clear varnished. So many more sessions of masking out edges and then, only then the spraying fun starts..!

When I started Bear Hug Campers, I wanted to build vans that felt like home. But I’ve always been an animal lover, and had been thinking how Bear Hug Campers could get involved with wildlife in some way.

That’s when I came across 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 and the bears they’ve rescued. Bears that had spent years in tiny cages, now roaming in a sanctuary where they finally get to live freely.

It was the ultimate scroll-stopping moment and I went down a bit of a rabbit hole finding out the stories of each bear that lead to them being rescued.

So here’s the news: every Bear Hug campervan build includes the adoption of a rescued bear. You’ll get an adoption pack, you can visit them, and a Bear Hug Campers X Wildwood Trust plaque will live inside your van.

It’s vanlife, but with the soul of a bear. 🐻✨

Have you ever wondered what it would be like in a campervan in a heatwave?

You can pack it with insulation, air con, fans and window shades, but nothing beats opening the side door and rear doors and getting a full blast of fresh air.. 😊

Most people see the finished van. What’s harder to show is what a normal day in the workshop looks like.

Making sure the right materials are in stock, with availability and prices changing daily. Coordinating timelines so a build doesn’t stall because something isn’t ready. Overlapping jobs carefully so everyone’s working to their strengths at the right time.

A small workshop and small team means there’s no slack in that - when something slips, everything feels it.

It’s the kind of juggle that’s hard to explain from the outside. The physical work is one thing, but it’s the thinking that takes up most of the space - what decisions need to be made today so something else isn’t held up next week.

It’s a lot of moving parts. But when it works, it’s our version of a good day.

Sometimes, dreaming about your travel bucket list is what pushes you to get through the daily grind - one step closer to when you can down-tools and get out in your van 🍃

Big shoutout to the incredibly talented Jay, who stepped up and took the lead on our latest Transporter build.

A boat builder by trade, he brings exceptional woodworking skills, impeccable attention to detail, and a deep knowledge of techniques that are slowly being lost with each generation.

Check out his boat work

(Also Billy's tail does windmills when he knows Jay is in the workshop..)
