Last Thursday, Sworders attended Cereals Event, held at Diddly Squat Farm. Despite the rain and muddy conditions, it was a fantastic day with a positive atmosphere.

The program of talks was insightful, and it was valuable to catch up with familiar faces while also having the opportunity to meet new people from across the industry, as well as listening to the Hawkstone Choir.

A huge thank you to .law for their generous hospitality, and it was great to catch up with the team.

Several members of the Sworders team attended the The CLA East’s Hertfordshire and Middlesex AGM on Tuesday, kindly hosted by the Woodhall Estate.

The day commenced with the AGM, and an update from CLA Deputy President, Joe Evans. This was followed by an e-bike tour of the Estate, and followed by an informative talk from Lady Egremont on the recent restoration of the Estate’s walled gardens. The event concluded with a delicious lunch, served adjacent to the gardens.

It was a well-organised and engaging day, and it was great to catch up with others across the local rural sector.

East Herts launches new Local Plan process and Scoping Consultation

Following last night’s Extraordinary Full Council decision, East Herts has officially begun preparation of its new Local Plan (2029–2044) with publication of a Notice of Intention to Commence Local Plan Preparation. Under the new streamlined plan making regulations, adoption is timetabled for April 2029.

A Scoping Consultation is now live (until 10 July 2026), inviting views on key planning issues, what the plan should include, how the council engages with the community, and the content of some key documents. Feedback will shape the plan’s direction, evidence base, and approach.

A second Call for Sites is also expected in the next 4–6 weeks.

If you have suitable land and would like more information, please get in touch with Sworders.

Government have now published draft regulations to reduce the number of planning applications that are determined by Planning Committees, aiming to streamline and speed up the decision-making process. The regulations are expected to come into effect on 31st October 2026, and will result in the majority of planning applications being determined by Planning Officers. The change should provide greater consistency and certainty, but may increase the likelihood of legal challenge.

Sworders staff members (and a few willing clients) recently undertook a photoshoot for our new website, with the aim of capturing a range of imagery that reflects the breadth of our work and the landscapes we engage with.

These behind-the-scenes images offer a small preview ahead of the full website launch, planned for later this year.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the for generously allowing us to use the estate’s landscape and buildings for the shoot, and to Design by Ark, our marketing consultants, for their expert direction and management of the day.
