Colin started Gwent Memorials https://gwentmemorials.co.uk/ in the mid 1990s to run alongside his existing job with support by his son, Ian's, Memorial Masonry business in the West Country . Gwent Memorials has always been organised with the strong ethos of always explaining to the bereaved families the different types of stone and granite available for headstones and memorials, the way they are

installed (fixed), types of memorial lettering, provide assistance with composing the headstone inscription and what headstones are and are not allowed in Council Cemeteries and in Churchyards. We realise that in many cases customers may not have had to deal with the purchase of a memorial previously and need help and advice

Gwent Memorials is registered with BRAMM (British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons) and has two memorial fixers with a BRAMM Fixers' Licence
All Memorial Masons and Local Councils registered with BRAMM undertake to ensure that all memorial erected comply with British Standard 8415:2018

Have your letters faded, and weathered over time? We were asked to repaint this memorial tablet down in St. Woolos Cemetery, Newport.
So we cleaned out all the old letters, to ensure the new Gold paint would stick, gave the tablet a good clean and then hand painted with memorial grade Gold.

It does look very nice indeed.

Our customer needed an additional inscription on the family memorial up in Brynithel cemetery.

So we removed the stone, matched up the font, painted the new inscription using memorial grade Gold. Re installed using a ground anchor and stainless steel dowels.

Which is very important to ensure safety and stability especially on steep banks or slopes.

It looks great and as good as new.

Well, here’s a different fabulous looking memorial to a much loved family member.
Balmoral Red, finished with gilded Gold letters and are shining very briefly in the summer sun.

It was installed up in Blaenavon Cemetery and looks very nice indeed and certainly stands out.
We live and so do our customers.

A couple of recent memorial installations down in the valley town Maesteg. An incredibly warm day in the hillside cemetery with stunning views of the town below .
Both in light grey, both look absolutely stunning. One needed an additional inscription, the other was a new memorial. One with Gold letters and one with silver finished off with matching flowerpots
All installed to BRAAM requirements using a ground anchor and stainless steel dowels to ensure safety and stability.

This memorial was leaning forward as there was no ground anchor when it was originally placed. It was also very loose to the point of being very likely to fall over.
So, we removed the memorial, and gave it a good clean, repainted all the letters using memorial grade Gold paint. Reinstalled it to the latest BRAMM regs using a ground anchor for stability and safety. All put back together using stainless steel dowels and finished off with two new matching Gold flower pots.

It looks as good as new and we are delighted with how it’s turned out. A fitting tribute to a much loved family member. Gwent Memorials

Spot the difference?

The transformation is incredible. We cleaned this white bookset ( not so white to start with), replaced the missing letters. Using a hammer and thin strips of lead. But can you spot which letters needed replacing?

The bookset had weathered over many years and it was a real privilege to bring it back to looking amazing once again. All reinstalled using stainless steel dowels,
It really does stand out as you walk up the path towards the lovely St. Bartholomew’s, Llanover. Sometimes you stand back at the end and say to yourself “wow that does look good” well this was one of those occasions.

This is a lovely tablet we recently placed in the fabulous St. Mary’s in Usk.
A great edge finished with hand painted Gold letters and matching flower pot. It also has a Golfer showing the love of golf which does stand out very nicely.
It’s placed on a plinth to raise it up slightly to stop the grass taking over.
A fitting tribute to a much loved family member.

Many of you will recognise the name on this fabulous memorial in memory is ‘Ray Cowles’, the motorbike man.
We recently installed this up in the lovely St Illtud’s, and I was given a guided tour of the church by the warden. Worth a visit for sure and there’s a fabulous pub opposite.
A fabulous dark grey memorial with Gold letters. Two badges were also attached showing his love of motorcycles and his time in the services.

Well what can be said about this amazing memorial we recently installed in Llanfoist Cemetery, Abergavenny.

It’s Forest Stone with a pitched back and highly polished front with hand painted memorial grade black letters, finished with a matching flower pot.

Sometimes when you’ve finished installing a memorial which is a privilege in itself, you stand back and think wow….that is very nice indeed.
The family love it and took the time to send us a lovely email. It compliments the memorial to the side of it as it’s the same sort of stone and lettering.

We really like this Honed Flint Grey memorial that we have installed up in St. Cadoc’s, Trevethin.

It’s a granite memorial finished with Memorial grade silver letters that really stand out in this finish.
