This consumer unit had several issues. Firstly it was mounted in the meter cabinet, DNOs don’t like that, as they state that the cabinet is for their equipment only. Secondly it was a split load unit, with a fair few circuits not RCD protected, thirdly it was made from a combustible material, but most importantly of all the existing RCD did not function at all when tested, I would estimate this unit to be around 30 years old so due to all the issues a replacement unit was installed, in the garage behind , featuring surge protection and RCBO protection to all circuits. A much neater, safer and more convenient solution.

Living by the coast is wonderful but it does have a detrimental effect on metal meter cabinets. As you can see this old one was completely rotten, so it was removed and replaced with a GRP over door item, which is a great solution.

Called out today to a socket which had burnt out. This socket had been supplying a caravan in the garden , with the associated heating and water heating running. The load was too much for the quality ‘Wickes’ socket outlet that was in place previously. Burnt out wiring replaced, and a Hager socket installed which can handle larger loads for a longer time, as it was rated for 13 amp EV charging. I have advised the customer to have a dedicated 16 amp socket installed with an earth electrode and I will be returning to install this at a later date.
