Planning approved: We’re pleased to share that Sefton Council has approved our plans for an innovative later living community for over-55s in Seaforth.

Our Sandy Road project will deliver 63 apartments for specialist provider, Housing 21, and it is the first of three affordable housing developments that we have in the pipeline for sites in Sefton.

Design detail and sensitivity are critically important to us, and being able to safeguard design quality and originality is the main reason why Group/d has evolved from an architectural practice into a development company.

The quality of collaboration with Sefton Council and Housing 21 has been integral to creating a thoughtful design for Sandy Road that received no objections.

Housing 21's James Lawton said: “There is a strong synergy between ourselves and Group/d in terms of our approach to place making and home making. We are delighted to be moving forward with them on this project, but are also excited by the potential of our future collaboration.

He added: "We are an aging society and we need to be more thoughtful and imaginative in how we provide homes for our residents, and how they integrate into thriving and sustainable neighbourhoods."

Often housing for older people has a functional and institutional feel that doesn't recognise or balance people's twin needs for privacy and belonging.

Our pioneering approach aims to provide residents in Seaforth with genuine independence whilst fostering a strong and inclusive community spirit – with an emphasis on openness and connectivity.

From the outset we set out with a determination to create a community, and a sense of place that gives residents their own personal space, but also attractive spaces for socialising, relaxation and recreation.

We believe it's really important that design fosters a sense of connection to the local neighbourhood, as well as to the natural world. Letting in light and nature is so important to human wellbeing, and it's been another guiding principle for this project.

The scheme includes an improved public footway and cycleway to help integrate the development into its local setting, and the south facing communal garden will be an inviting and animated natural space at the heart of a community, not just a piece of functional landscaping.

We expect to be on site before the end of March with the first residents moving into their new homes in 2028.

This is what happens when we re-imagine a traditional bungalow to create a contemporary living space...

Hunters Gate was a dormer bungalow, and our client wanted a radical makeover to provide an efficient modern family living space.

Hunters Gate brings together a calm architectural language, thoughtful detailing and a sense of place that feels both grounded and contemporary.

Our approach was to rethink the existing layout of the property with a focus on bright, versatile spaces and a refreshing contemporary aesthetic.

We only went and won!

Last week Group/d Architects + Developments were named Architect of the Year at the YM Liverpool Property Awards.

We’re incredibly proud of the recognition, not just for the architecture and development projects we’ve delivered, but for the approach that sits behind them - collaborative, contextual and rooted in improving the places and communities we work in, especially the Liverpool region

This is a theme that Nuala Gallagher, Corporate Director of City Development at Liverpool City Council emphasised on the night in her insightful conversation with YM Editor Lawrence Saunders.

Her passion for the city, and her commitment to raising Liverpool’s confidence and visibility nationally and globally, was a powerful reminder of what makes this region special: a community of talented, determined people who believe in its potential.

It was great to see a room packed full of talented and passionate professionals who share that ambition.

Awards aside, that collective energy is what will continue to drive the city forward.

Thank you to Lawrence Saunders, and the whole YM Liverpool team for organising such a positive and well-supported event.

We’re grateful for the recognition and even more grateful for the partnerships that make our work possible.

And a huge thank you to those who joined us at our table to share our success:

• Philip Helm of Tyson Construction
• Giles Brooke of Drees & Sommer
• Paul Moy from ECE
• Jon Kelly of WSP
• Nicolette Cullen from C2K Developments
• and Brand & Marketing Consultant Chris Blackhurst

Here’s to the next 12 months as we continue the growth of the development arm of our business and build on this momentum.

We’ve been nominated!

We're proud to share that Group/d Architects + Developments have been nominated for Architectural Practice of the Year at tonight's 2025 YM Liverpool Property and Business Awards.

A huge thank you to our clients and collaborators who help us shape every project with dedication and care.

Win or lose, we're looking forward to joining leading lights from the Liverpool City Region’s property and business sectors at the Crowne Plaza Hotel this evening to celebrate another 12 months of achievements in the city.

Cheers to everyone's success 🥂
