Not Just Collective

Not Just Collective Creative collective based in the North West of England. Not Just is an arts collective based in the north west of England.

Our members include poets, musicians, storytellers and visual artists. Originally formed by volunteers at the 2012 Liverpool Biennial festival, our first exhibition opened in January 2013 at Domino Gallery. Since then the collective has evolved to welcome new members and collaborators for exhibitions across the region. Alongside gallery shows, we have occupied less traditional spaces, including a

community garden, a terraced house, and the Williamson Tunnels. If you’d like to work with us, please get in touch!

Robert James Harrison

Photographer, Painter, Writer, Musician and Poet. How many tags, how many hats, can the modern artist wear .

It seems quite a few. As everybody wants to be a
Generalist these days. ( look that up ) But, I must admit photography still maintains a grasp on me, as does drawing, relatively speaking.

Why ? I suppose it's a way of thinking about the world through the language of the lens. Or a broken lens, if
you're a punk poet on the loose, complete with handy phone Camera.

An easy replacement for the posh camera. which has
now become an important male jewellery accessory
for the nouveau riche.

And talking replacement ?

It”s where the 7inch Single replaced the boring and expensive Album. The instant fix or hit

So, perhaps that's what it's all about, the art fix ? As
my wares are spread out on the table now, for all to
see.

Coming back to hats

It”s interesting, as I,m pulling together a research project
on Revolutionary poetry. It seems that the main instigators of the various Modernist movements of the 20th Century
Ball, Breton and Debord. Saw themselves primarily as poets.

So maybe throw all the hats in the bin, and just be a poet
Who knows ?

Moon Rice is a multidisciplinary artist, inclusive of writing, art, and performance. For this show of recent work Moon has presented a selection of Neo Pop digital portraits inspired by Jung's 12 archetypes.

They resist clarity much as Moon's intrinsic q***rness resists clarity, allowing the onlooker to form their own sense and knowledge.

T.O’C is a Liverpool artist and tutor. His work covers painting, sculpture, performance and, in this case, printmaking.

His broad, ongoing themes deal with spiritual, mythic and religious imagery through a q***r lens. This sometimes celebrates joy (such as his images here of Buddhist Bodhisattvas) and sometimes subverts and rejects institutional homophobia by reclaiming images of saints such as Sebastian and Francis as q***r archetypes.

This set of work is lino cut and shows Bodhisattva Manjushri, Bodhisattva Tara , Saint Francis (apearing as Bodhisattva Avalokitishvara) and Saints Sebastian and Francis marching at Pride in Heaven.

The work is designed to open conversations around compassion, wisdom, equality and common ground but the fact that some find it offensive or even blasphemous is why there is still a need to make it.

It’s the end of the term as we know it and we feel fine. LIAS tutors are taking a month to recharge our batteries and wanted to thank everyone who’s supported what we do for an amazing year culminating in some ends of really good projects, full day specialist workshops, gallery visits and of course our field trip to lovely Llandudno. We wouldn’t be an art school without our artists. We’ll be back in first week of September for new classes and the celebration day of ten years of LIAS. Wishing you all a great summer break. Don’t stop being artists- (we’ll be doing random sketchbook inspections to keep you on your toes 😂)

Thanks to the brilliant Fadi for opening his lovely cafe space Chillo ( on Renshaw Street ) not just to Not Just for visual arts exhibition, this time featuring Rob, Toc , Moon, Jasmine and John but for staying open to host our PV.

In usual Not Just style the PV features music, poetry and story telling from a range of performers with a welcoming open mike vibe. Our other Not Just folks like Nicky and James also came back for a welcome return.

Shout out to our own Rob and Andy for facilitating the performing part of the night and to Jas for her first PV with us and for making sales.

Well done everyone. Exhibition runs through July and August. Go and try Chillo’s lovely cake and drinks and see some art.
