We're always proud to support young people in learning more about the world of work and the careers available to them!

Today, our Sustainability Manager, Sophie, and Finance Assistant, Adriana, attended Archbishop Blanch School to speak with students about the diverse career opportunities available within the construction industry.

From apprenticeships and finance to sustainability and project delivery, it was great to showcase the wide range of roles that help keep our sector moving forward. Supporting and promoting women in construction remains incredibly important, and we were proud to share our experiences, inspire future career choices, and encourage more young women to consider a career in the industry.

A great morning for our Social Value Manager, Louise, at St Julie’s Catholic High School's Enterprise Day!

Louise spent time with Year 7 pupils discussing their business ideas, and it was inspiring to see the creativity and ambition on display. Engaging with young people through events like this is so important, giving local employers the chance to support future talent and help students explore the opportunities available to them.

With St Julie’s being the closest high school to our Menlove Avenue UTC scheme, we were proud to be involved and support the next generation of local talent.

This morning, we attended the Knowsley Council Ambassador Event at Kirkby High School, where our Social Value Manager, Louise, delivered a presentation on the importance of social value and creating opportunities for local people.

Louise highlighted the work we do across Knowsley to support apprenticeships, work placements, employability initiatives, and community projects, demonstrating how investment in people today helps build a stronger future workforce for the borough.

It was fantastic to join a range of inspiring speakers and connect with like-minded organisations, all sharing a commitment to creating lasting positive impact within our communities. Thank you to everyone involved for hosting such a valuable event and for the opportunity to showcase the difference that collaboration can make across Knowsley.

We are pleased to have commenced works on a major junction improvement scheme at Peasley Cross Roundabout, helping to deliver safer, more efficient, and accessible journeys for all road users while supporting the continued regeneration and development taking place across St Helens.

The scheme will provide significant highway infrastructure upgrades, including:

• New and upgraded signalised junctions to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion
• Enhanced pedestrian crossing facilities to improve safety and accessibility
• Improved cycling infrastructure to support active travel
• Highway alignment and capacity improvements
• Upgrades to footways, verges and street lighting
• Improvements designed to benefit motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike

Working in partnership with St Helens Borough Council, the project will not only enhance the local transport network but also deliver meaningful social value throughout the construction period. This includes providing opportunities for apprentices to gain hands-on industry experience, supporting local organisations through community initiatives and charitable contributions, and maintaining regular engagement with residents and stakeholders to keep the community informed as works progress.

These improvements form part of a wider investment in St Helens' infrastructure, creating safer, more sustainable and reliable connections that will support economic growth and benefit local communities for years to come.

For World Mental Health Day this Saturday, we're reflecting on the 2026 theme,"Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change", which highlights the importance of listening to and learning from people's real experiences with mental health.

At HAC, we know that creating a positive culture starts with conversation. That's why we're proud to have a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders who are on hand to provide support, listen without judgement and help colleagues access the guidance they may need.

Alongside initiatives such as Time to Talk, our Mental Health First Aiders help ensure that every colleague has the opportunity to be heard. By encouraging open conversations and providing a supportive ear, they play a vital role in helping to break down stigma and promote understanding across the business. When people feel listened to, supported and valued, real change can happen.

We're also using World Mental Health Day to reaffirm our support for RAISE and No Excuse for Roadworker Abuse. Creating a positive workplace isn't just about supporting mental health when challenges arise; it's about fostering an environment where people feel safe, respected and appreciated every day. By standing against abuse and promoting respect across our industry, we're helping to protect the wellbeing of our workforce and ensuring colleagues feel confident speaking up when they need support.

As part of our commitment to delivering meaningful social value in the communities where we work, we were delighted to donate a bike to a deserving pupil at St Paul and Timothy's Catholic Primary School.

With our Town Row junction improvement scheme taking place on a key route used by local schools and families, we wanted to create a positive impact beyond the works themselves. The bike was presented by our Social Value Manager, Louise, and Project Manager, Jay, who were pleased to meet with the school and support a young person within the local community.

We hope the donation helps provide greater independence and confidence, while encouraging an active lifestyle and offering new opportunities to travel, explore and enjoy time outdoors.

Congratulations and good luck to all finalists. We look forward to celebrating the very best of Knowsley!
