We are happy to share an update on one of our recent projects involving the installation of underground gas pipework using MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) piping. While the weather posed quite a challenge in recent days, with less-than-ideal conditions, our dedicated team of engineers worked tirelessly to get the job done!
Why MDPE for Underground Gas?
You might wonder why we use MDPE for underground gas installations. MDPE is specifically designed for gas distribution systems because of its excellent durability, flexibility, and resistance to corrosion. Unlike traditional metal pipes, MDPE does not rust or degrade when exposed to the elements underground. This makes it a reliable and long-lasting solution, ensuring that the gas supply remains safe and efficient for years to come. Additionally, MDPE can handle high-pressure gas distribution, making it perfect for large-scale projects like this one.
A Glimpse Into the Installation Process
For this project, we installed a 125mm (5”) gas pipe that will supply an 800kW boiler with the right ammount of gas required to operate effectively, specified by our client. This type of work requires precise techniques, which is why we utilised a fusion welding machine.
Fusion welding creates a seamless, strong connection between the pipe sections, ensuring that there are no leaks or weak spots. This is critical for the safe and efficient operation of gas lines, especially for high-demand systems like the one we are installing here.
Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, our engineers’ perseverance and commitment to quality ensured that the installation was completed to the highest standards. We always strive to deliver reliable, high-quality service regardless of the challenges, and this project was no exception.
