A few days ago, I put a post up asking for help for an elderly couple in Bootle who had been left devastated after paying £18,000 for a roof that now needs completely replacing.

❤️ CALLING ON THE ROOFING COMMUNITY FOR HELP ❤️

I’m looking for a few good lads willing to give up a Saturday to help an elderly couple in Bootle who have been left in a terrible situation.

They recently paid £18,000 for a new roof — a job that realistically should have cost around £5,000. Unfortunately, the workmanship is so poor that the roof now needs to be completely stripped off and redone from scratch.

A massive thank you to HABB Scaffolding, especially Harry, who has kindly offered to provide the scaffolding free of charge. If you’d like to contact Harry directly, his number is 07901 809464.

I’ll be covering the cost of all materials and will have my own lads on the job, but we’re looking for a few extra roofers or labourers who’d be willing to volunteer a day and help us get this sorted for them.

We’re also looking for a local skip company that may be willing to donate or heavily discount a skip for the job. Any help with waste removal would be hugely appreciated.

It’s heartbreaking to see elderly people taken advantage of, so we’re doing what we can to put it right. If you can spare a Saturday and lend a hand, provide a skip, or help in any way, please get in touch.

🚨 Another New Roof Inspection Today 🚨

We were asked to inspect this recently completed roof for an elderly customer who had concerns about the workmanship.

Unfortunately, those concerns were justified.

🔴 Broken tiles throughout the roof
🔴 Tiles incorrectly gauged, leaving nail holes visible
🔴 Loose ridge tiles already moving
🔴 Old lead flashing reused around the soil vent pipe
🔴 Top batten built up with three battens stacked on top of each other instead of being installed correctly
🔴 Poor finishing and lack of attention to detail throughout

For many homeowners, a new roof is one of the biggest investments they’ll ever make. Sadly, some contractors take advantage of vulnerable customers, leaving them with a roof that looks new from the ground but is full of defects once inspected properly.

A roof should be installed to manufacturer specifications, current standards, and with workmanship that will stand the test of time—not shortcuts and bodged repairs.

The most worrying part? This roof is supposed to be new.

Always do your research before choosing a roofing contractor and don’t be afraid to ask for references, insurance details, and previous work.
