💡 First fix to second fix lighting transformation 💡

Completed the lighting installation on this extension project, taking it from first fix cabling right through to finished LED downlights and power points.

The Velux window combined with the warm LED downlights gives the space a clean, modern feel while helping bring plenty of natural light into the room.

It’s always good seeing a project come together from bare plasterboard and cables hanging out the ceiling to the finished result ✅

⚡ Another reason why EICRs are so important ⚡

Carried out an Electrical Installation Condition Report last week and discovered a broken CPC (earth) continuity on the ring socket circuit. After fault finding, the issue was traced back to a TV bracket screw that had been drilled through the cable behind the wall when the bracket was installed.

The surprising part? The tenant had lived there for around 8 years and everything still appeared to be “working” normally the whole time.

This is exactly why electrical testing is so important — just because sockets and appliances still power up doesn’t always mean the installation is safe. In this case, the earth protection had been compromised and without proper testing during the EICR, the fault may never have been found.

Electricity can be very unforgiving when faults go unnoticed.

Got called out to a property where some sockets had stopped working…
Quick look behind the socket and this is what we found 👀

Looks like someone had only connected the live conductors and left neutrals/earths disconnected 😬 — which is why nothing was working properly (and more importantly, not safe).

Everything was correctly reconnected, tested, and left safe and working as it should 👍
This is why it’s always worth getting things checked properly — what looks like a quick fix can cause bigger issues down the line.

💨 Bathroom Fan Upgrade – Done Right 💨

Customer had a bathroom fan that had completely stopped working 🚫
After taking a look, it wasn’t just the fan — the original install had poor ducting, which was restricting airflow and causing the failure.

🔧 What was done:
✅ Old faulty fan removed
✅ New extractor fan installed
✅ Ducting replaced and corrected
✅ Proper airflow restored
✅ Fully tested and working as it should
Now the bathroom is ventilating properly again – no more moisture build-up or condensation issues 💨
