Flat roof replacement recently completed in the Blackhall area of Edinburgh for a returning customer 🔨🔥 The previous flat roof installation had been finished incorrectly with no drips & this made the roof vulnerable to blowing off in high winds. This is the 2nd flat roof replaced to this property & we are very grateful to be invited back to carry out further works by a customer.

-Defective flat roof surface stripped & discarded.
-New flat roof insulation added.
-New bitumen torch on flat roof added.
-New flat roof drip edge formed.
-New code 5 lead barge flashing added.
-New code 8 ties with copper supports added to prevent wind uplift.
-New code 5 lead details added to front hip tiles.

Strip & re-tile carried out in Livingston for a great client & family friend. The roof to this property was in an aged condition & was in need of some TLC.

-Roof stripped back to timber trusses & new osb roof deck added.
-Permavent breathable roof membrane added.
-New counter & tile batten added.
-Roof tiled in a Marley Mendip roof tile.
-New ventilated dry ridge system added.
-New high profile bonding gutter added to separate neighbouring roof.
-New UPVC dry verge units added.
-New deep-flow guttering & downpipes added.
-New “black ash” UPVC fascia board added.
-Inline mendip vents added to assist in air movement.
-Additional vent tile added & bathroom extractor fan connected.
-New lead soil pipe flashing added.
-Job cleared & washed on completion.

The customer at this property in the Costorphine area of Edinburgh had recently moved in, only to have problems at several areas of their roof. Renovations had started on the inside of the property & a plan was set to carry out a re-slate to the 2 worst roof pitches at this stage. Further timber repairs were identified & carried out due to poor previous repairs & lack of maintenance carried out by the last owner.

-2 x roof panels stripped & re-slated with Cupa H3 slates.
-Breathable membrane & eaves trays added.
-Dormant chimney removed & UB11 vent added.
-Additional timber repairs carried out.
-2 further UB11 vents added to areas where chimneys had previously been removed to allow the space to ventilate.
-New gutter straps & cast iron gutter sections replaced.
-2 x new custom lead soil pipe pieces added.
-New 14” gauge zinc ridge added to hip & ridge details.
-All guttering red oxide primed & gloss finished in black to finish.

For anybody that is not familiar with the person behind RM RoofWorks Ltd formed in 2024.

RM RoofWorks Ltd is very much a business based on offering a high standard of finish with a service to match.

Ross - Ross is a time served heritage slater with 16 years experience in the roofing industry. Serving 4 years at Edinburgh College & gathering an NVQ in Roof Slating & Tiling, also picking up apprentice of the year back in 2011.

Although experienced in all aspects of roofing, Ross learnt his trade on Edinburgh’s rooftops & has a passion for preserving heritage buildings using traditional methods & materials.

Still very much new to the business side, I look forward to creating a client base which can rely on quality roof repairs with the first class service that comes with it.

I am excited to see the business expand over the coming years & to create a service which is unmatched.

New 4 layer flat roof & lead work finished at our latest project. The owners of this property were having water ingress issues due to previous poor repairs to the watergate detail. Once the flat roof was stripped, it was also established that the top layer of felt had been torched on top of the previous felt covering which, in turn is very poor practice.

-New code 5 lead watergates & flashings added.
-New Upvc Fascia & felt drip edge added to dormer.
-New 4 layer bitumen felt flat roof added.
-New cement haunching added to chimney cans.
-Roof washed down on installation completion.
