Why Is My Water Meter Constantly Spinning?
If your water meter keeps moving even when every tap is turned off, there's a good chance water is escaping somewhere on your cold water system.
That's exactly what happened during this investigation.
The customer noticed the water meter never stopped registering water usage despite nothing being used inside the property.
We carried out an acoustic leak detection survey beneath the timber floor instead of lifting large sections of flooring.
As we moved across the floorboards, the escaping water produced a clear acoustic signal that became stronger over one particular area.
Once the location had been confirmed, we lifted just five floorboards.
Underneath, we found a leaking 15mm cold water pipe supplying the bathroom.
The damaged pipe was repaired, the system pressure tested successfully, and the original floorboards reinstated.
One thing we regularly explain is that a constantly spinning water meter is one of the earliest warning signs of a concealed water leak.
The sooner it's investigated, the less damage the escaping water usually causes.
Accurate leak detection meant we only opened the area that actually needed repairing.
Have you ever checked whether your water meter is still moving when everything in your home is switched off?
