Did you know this crazy-looking vegetable was once a staple crop of the Ancient Incas? 🌿✨
Meet Achocha (Cyclanthera pedata), also known around the world as Caigua, Slipper Gourd, Stuffing Cucumber, Lady’s Slipper, and Sparrow Gourd (小雀瓜)! While it’s native to the high Andes of South America, it grows incredibly well right in garden plots and climbs up fences like crazy.
Today, we harvested our homegrown, organic Achocha straight from the vine to cook up a fragrant Sri Lankan Coconut Curry! 🥥🌶️
💡 3 Mind-Blowing Facts About Achocha:
1. The Ultimate Shapeshifter: When picked tiny and green, it tastes crisp and refreshing just like a cucumber! But when matured, cooked, and seeded, it takes on a tender texture and mild flavor just like a green bell pepper or zucchini.
2. Incan Superfood: Ancient Andean civilizations have cultivated this unique plant for thousands of years. In traditional medicine, it’s valued for helping reduce blood pressure, managing cholesterol, and acting as a natural anti-inflammatory.
3. Black Seed Magic: Inside mature pods, you won’t find regular white seeds—they feature distinctive, flat black seeds that look almost like geometric tree bark!
Sri Lankan Style Curry Recipe Breakdown
If you ever get your hands on fresh Achocha, here is how we transformed ours into a comfort meal:
Harvest & Prep: Pick mature pods, slice them open, and scoop out the hard black seeds. Thinly slice the hollowed shells.
Spices: Toss the sliced vegetable in red chili powder, turmeric, roasted Sri Lankan curry powder, and a dash of salt.
The Simmer: Pour in thick coconut milk and simmer until tender. Stir in fresh chopped tomatoes for acidity and balanced sweetness.
The Tempering (Tarka): Finish by pouring in crispy fried shallots, curry leaves, and mustard seeds for that authentic Sri Lankan aroma!

Nothing beats the quiet magic of a sunny morning in the garden. ☀️🌸
Today, I harvested fresh zucchini and pumpkin blossoms—leaving a few behind for our hardworking bee friends, of course! 🐝💛
I brought these delicate golden blooms into the kitchen, stuffed them with creamy ricotta and basil, whipped up a light batter, and fried them until perfectly crisp and golden. To top it all off, a generous drizzle of kithul treacle—a rich, floral syrup made from palm blossom nectar that pairs like a dream with the warm, crispy blooms. 🍯✨
Slow mornings like this remind me to savor the little things... quite literally! Would you try this sweet & savory garden treat? Let me know below! 👇

Nothing beats the satisfaction of harvesting your own fresh food!
Today we’re picking fresh, organically grown Kangkung (Water Spinach) right from the garden planter! Look at how lush and vibrant these green shoots are.
Fun Fact 1: Did you know Kangkung grows so ridiculously fast in warm weather that it can literally grow up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) in a single day? Talk about a super-plant! 🚀🌱

Fun Fact 2:Kangkung is actually a close relative of the sweet potato! While sweet potatoes are grown for their tubers, Kangkung is cultivated purely for its tender, nutrient-rich leaves and crunchy hollow stems. 🍠🍃

If you grow French beans, you know the drill: pick them every single day or get overwhelmed! 😅
Just a couple of vines are yielding an incredible harvest every morning. Today’s haul came with a side of homegrown cucumbers, too. Eating fresh from the backyard really can’t be beat.
Are your bean vines going wild this season too?

A morning stroll through the veggie patch... 🌼🐝
There is nothing quite like a peaceful morning harvest in the backyard! Today I went out to collect some gorgeous squash, pumpkin, and courgette flowers for the kitchen.
But the real highlight? The backyard entertainment! I found one pumpkin flower with a busy little bee inside, but when I moved to the next one, a pair of bees had already claimed it for a morning meeting. I didn’t want to disrupt their breakfast, so I left that one entirely to them. Always love sharing the garden with our favorite pollinators! 💛
