Some more photos of our Herne Hill rear extension 🏡✨

We transformed a cold, disconnected Edwardian terrace into a warm, sociable family home — built around cooking, gathering and everyday rituals.

A three-metre-high window frames the garden behind the kitchen sink, clay-plastered walls and oak joinery bring warmth and texture, and a bespoke half-height tiled wall lets the kitchen stay part of family life without giving away every mess.

New Malden Rear Extension 🧱🌿

This rear extension was designed to create a modern, light filled hub to a Victorian end-of-terrace house. 🏡

Two rooflights, a garden-facing window seat, and a pitched roof form (shaped by planning constraints) bring in daylight and character in equal measure — while exposed brick and bespoke joinery keep it rooted in the home’s history.

Early visuals for a family home extension in progress ✍🏽

The brief: natural light with shading, views to the garden, and a real connection to the outdoors — no “modern box” bolted onto the house 🏡

We’ve picked up the oak columns and beams from the traditional front façade and carried them through to the rear, framing the garden. Brick 🧱 zinc and timber 🪵 working together rather than fighting the original house.

At this Herne Hill extension, we paired pale buff brick 🧱 with natural oak windows 🪟 and soft off-white detailing to create a contemporary addition that still feels at home alongside the original house 🏠
